Kamal Haasan proud of Vijay's journey, says he's no longer just an actor
Kamal Haasan said Chief Minister Vijay should now be viewed through his public office, not his film career. The remark underscored his earlier support for Vijay after the hung Assembly verdict.

Actor and Rajya Sabha MP Kamal Haasan on Wednesday said Chief Minister Vijay should no longer be viewed as a film actor, noting that he now carries a different set of responsibilities.
Speaking to reporters outside Chennai airport, Haasan said that leadership roles transcend professional backgrounds. “Vijay should no longer be looked at as a cinema actor. He has other responsibilities. A chief minister could come from any walk of life. I am proud that he has come from the film industry,” he said, as reported by Cinema Express.
Haasan’s remarks came days after CM Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerged as the single largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The results, announced on May 4, led to a hung Assembly – a first in the state’s history.
Haasan had earlier congratulated Vijay on the outcome and urged constitutional authorities to respect the mandate. In a note shared on X, he called for Vijay to be invited to form the government, citing the S R Bommai case to stress that a majority should be tested on the Assembly floor rather than at the Raj Bhavan.
Haasan, who launched his political party in 2018 and is part of the Secular Progressive Alliance led by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), has been vocal about the post-poll developments in the state.
On the film front, Haasan was last seen in Thug Life (2025) and currently has KH 237 in production with Anbariv. He is also set to reunite on screen with Rajinikanth for a film directed by Nelson Dilipkumar.
Thalapathy Vijay, meanwhile, is awaiting the release of his final film Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth.
