Suriya's Karuppu will not release on its scheduled date, May 14, and the makers are now trying for a possible release on May 15. Earlier, the makers suggested that they were trying for an evening release on Friday as they were trying to solve the financial issues. Now, theatre owners in Tamil Nadu have confirmed that the evening and night shows have been cancelled as well. The makers are now targetting a release on Friday, May 15.

Sharing an update on X, Ruban Mathivanan, owner of GK Cinemas in Chennai, wrote, "#Karuppu - All shows are cancelled today. Team is trying to release it Tomo , will update once Distributor confirms us. Refund is initiated for both online and counter. (sic)."

Coimbatore’s Broadway Cinemas confirmed the news by writing, “#Karuppu evening and night shows have been regrettably cancelled. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused (sic)."

The development came after the film's morning and afternoon shows were cancelled on Thursday. Director RJ Balaji later shared a video message apologising to fans who had travelled to theatres for the screenings and said he had not expected the disruption.

In a video message, Balaji said he was hoping the issues would be resolved and that the film could still release at 6 pm. In the video, he said, "I am giving you another update from my car. I hope it's the last one. I am really sorry to all the fans. It shouldn't have happened. You must have travelled from long distances to reach the theatres in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and other states to watch the film at 9 am. It shouldn't have happened, and I am sorry for that."

The delay is linked to reported financial issues around the film, including more than Rs 50 crore in unpaid dues associated with Dream Warrior Pictures, led by SR Prabu. Reports said Suriya had intervened in clearing dues related to Karuppu, while the production house would have to address the remaining issues separately.
