Suriya's Karuppu premieres with one-day delay, team apologises for release chaos
Suriya's Karuppu released in theatres on May 15 after a one-day delay caused by financial issues. The postponement led to cancelled shows, apologies from the team and relief for waiting fans.

Suriya's Karuppu finally released in theatres on May 15, a day after its scheduled release date. The film, directed by RJ Balaji, had been due for release on May 14, but it was delayed after it got stuck in financial limbo. The hold-up was linked to Dream Warrior Pictures failing to secure clearance over unsettled dues amounting to more than Rs 50 crore. As a result, the film's shows scheduled for May 14 were cancelled, causing stress for fans and theatre owners.
Suriya later stepped in to resolve the financial issues and announced that the film would release on May 15. Sharing new posters of Karuppu on X, he wrote, "Dear all... Thank you for being with us! #Karuppu #VeeraBhadrudu from today! (sic)."

Dream Warrior Pictures also shared a statement apologising for the delay. The statement read: "There are some journeys that test not just time, but the heart itself. To every person who waited for Karuppu, who kept asking about the film, who never stopped believing in us even through the silence and delays — we owe you an apology, and more importantly, our deepest gratitude. We know this wait was painful. We know many of you held onto this film with so much love and expectation."
They added, "Every delay weighed heavily on us too. But through every setback, it was your support, your messages, your faith, and your endless love that kept this dream alive. Today, with full hearts and tears of gratitude, we finally say: #Karuppu is releasing worldwide! This film carries our blood, sweat, sleepless nights, struggles, and emotions. It is not just our story anymore — it belongs to every one of you who stood beside us through this journey. Thank you for waiting. Thank you for believing. See you in theatres!"
While the makers tried their best to solve the issues to facilitate the film's release on the evening of May 14, their efforts took more time. RJ Balaji shared an emotional video breaking down, apologising to fans for the unexpected disruption.
Karuppu is directed by RJ Balaji and has screenplay written by Ashwin Ravichandran, Rahul Raj, TS Gopi Krishnan and Karan Aravind Kumar. Apart from Suriya and Trisha, the cast includes Swasika, Indrans, Yogi Babu, Sshivada, Natty Subramaniam and Supreeth Reddy.
With the financial issues addressed, Karuppu opened in theatres on May 15 after a one-day delay, with Suriya and Dream Warrior Pictures both acknowledging the disruption caused by the postponement.
