Raja Shivaji registered a strong opening at the domestic box office upon its release on Maharashtra Day. The film, directed by and starring Riteish Deshmukh, made an impressive start by collecting around Rs 11.35 crore on its first day.

According to a report by Sacnilk, the film collected an impressive Rs 8 crore Nett on Friday from its Marathi version alone, placing it at the top of the highest opening-day collections for a Marathi film. The Hindi version earned Rs 3.35 crore. This brought the total to Rs 11.35 crore.

The historical action drama achieved this milestone across just 1,941 shows, recording a strong average occupancy of 68 per cent. This record-breaking start follows an exceptional advance booking phase, which had already indicated a promising opening for the film.

Raja Shivaji advance booking

Ahead of its release, Raja Shivaji closed advance bookings at Rs 5.14 crore gross, with the original Marathi version alone contributing around Rs 4.25 crore gross (approximately Rs 3.60 crore Nett). With this, the film comfortably surpassed the long-standing Day 1 records of Sairat and Timepass 2, both of which had collected an estimated Rs 3.60 crore Nett on their opening days.

The film’s strong start has been largely driven by its Marathi version, which has witnessed solid occupancy across both multiplexes and single screens in Maharashtra.

indiatoday.tech’s review of Raja Shivaji reads, “Raja Shivaji ultimately lands as a film that remains true to Shivaji’s valour and story. It gets the scale, intent, and emotion right, but falters in narrative precision. For those invested in the story and legacy of Shivaji Maharaj, it offers enough moments to stay engaged.”

Raja Shivaji is now in theatres. It is available in Hindi, Marathi, and Telugu.
