The government on Friday hiked fuel prices by Rs three per litre for petrol and diesel, and Rs two for CNG, driven by rising global crude prices and supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. Soon after the price hike, a massive political war erupted over fuel price hikes. Taking a jibe at PM Modi, Congress said the Prime Minister's 'extortion' has begun as soon as the assembly election ended. While the BJP defended petrol and diesel, sharing data on fuel price hikes in other countries.
Meanwhile, in response to Prime Minister's appeal for austerity, the Supreme Court has mandated virtual hearings on Mondays and Fridays, while the Delhi government has implemented a two-day work-from-home policy and 'Metro Mondays' to conserve fuel.
