Lok Sabha 2019 polls: Will it be Priyanka Gandhi Vadra vs PM Modi and UP CM Yogi?

The newly inducted Congress general secretary and party incharge for Uttar Pradesh (east) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been made in-charge of 43 out of 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Priyanka has been given charge of the party affairs in eastern UP. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary constituency Varanasi and CM Yogi Adityanath's stronghold Gorakhpur fall in the region. She is also learnt to have discussed the party's strategy for the area ahead of Lok Sabha elections during informal meetings held on Tuesday.

The first big task for Priyanka would be to infuse life in a crumbling Congress in eastern UP, where it got dislodged first in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and then in the state Assembly elections 2017.

Yogi Adityanath on Saturday presented a saffron gamcha to Suvendu Adhikari, shortly after the latter took oath as the first BJP Chief Minister of West Bengal. The crowd also erupted into a loud cheer as the scene unfolded at the swearing-in ceremony in Kolkata. This was at least the second such instance in recent weeks when the duo's bonhomie was witnessed publicly. Earlier, during the election campaign in the state, a powerful scene was witnessed when Adhikari bowed down at the feet of the UP Chief Minister as a mark of respect.
