PM Modi, Rishi Sunak discuss Free Trade Agreement; Amit Shah on CAA implementation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday had a telephonic conversation with his UK counterpart Rishi Sunak and the two leaders discussed an early conclusion of a mutually beneficial India-UK Free Trade Agreement.

"Had a good conversation with PM RishiSunak. We reaffirmed our commitment to further strengthen the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and work for early conclusion of a mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement," the Prime Minister said in a post on X.

After 4 years of the law being passed, the CAA is being implemented. Protests and celebrations were witnessed across the country. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, "We had said that we would bring CAA. the Congress party kept opposing it. Our constitution drafters promised that refugees coming from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan who come here after suffering oppression there will be granted citizenship by us. However, due to appeasement and votebank politics, Congress used to oppose it. By granting citizenship to Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, Sikhs and others, Narendra Modi ji has honoured them."
