Peace in Iran is in our interest, doesn't matter who mediates: Shashi Tharoor

In an exclusive interview with India Today, senior parliamentarian and former diplomat Shashi Tharoor discussed the US-Iran ceasefire, Pakistan's role in mediation and much more. Tharoor argued that India must prioritise regional stability and its economic interests, stating, 'peace is in our national interest,' regardless of who brokers the deal. Addressing the Islamabad-hosted peace talks between the US and Iran, he described Pakistan as a 'diplomatic fig leaf' for Washington and Tehran to de-escalate without losing face. While acknowledging India's historical distrust of Pakistan, Tharoor suggested a 'mature view' is necessary as the war impacts India's energy security and the Global South.
