World Cup 2019: Rohit Sharma has played like a dream, says Aakash Chopra

ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: Former India batsman Aakash Chopra, speaking to India Today, pointed out that Rohit Sharma has changed his approach to batting in the tournament as he is willing to be ugly and remain calm under pressure.

Former India batsman Aakash Chopra heaped rich praise on Rohit Sharma after the India opener equalled Sachin Tendulkar's record for the most number of hundreds in World Cups.

Aakash Chopra pointed out Rohit Sharma is willing to play ugly and is donning the role of a big brother in his opening partnership with KL Rahul.

"Unbelievable, sensation. I never thought this was possible. Here is a guy who has played 16 odd World Cup games and he would go on to equal Sachin Tendulkar's record of 6 six centuries across six editions. Sachin took about 44 innings. Of course, some of them came lower down the order. I don't know what's possible. He is making batting ridiculously easy," Aakash Chopra said.

He added: "He had to play that role. With Shikhar Dhawan there was a natural camaraderie build over the years. You know your partner really well for you to actually thrive. That's where now Rohit Sharma has assumed the responsibility of an elder brother. He is the one who is guiding KL Rahul. There are phases in the game where you can see he is under pressure."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hugged and honoured 98-year-old Makhanlal Sarkar, one of the earliest and senior most members of the BJP. The scene unfolded on the stage ahead of Suvendu Adhikari's swearing-in as West Bengal's Chief Minister in Kolkata. PM Modi also touched Sarkar's feet and presented a shawl to him as a mark of respect. In 1952, Sarkar was arrested in Kashmir while he was accompanying Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee as the latter was marching to hoist the tricolour there. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya described the elderly party leader as "one of the earliest grassroots figures associated with the nationalist movement in post-Independence India."
