Bangladesh vs Pakistan 1st Test, Day 1: Highlights from Dhaka

A historic win for Bangladesh - The first Test is over, and Bangladesh has made history in Mirpur by beating Pakistan at home for the very first time. They will be celebrating this victory that fans will remember for a long time. Player of the Match - Najmul Hossain Shanto, the skipper of Bangladesh, is also the Player of the Match for his century in the first innings and his knock of 87 runs in the second innings. He says that he is very happy and proud of the entire team. Adds that they trained hard and everyone stepped up. Mentions that he didn't know that this was their first win over Pakistan at home but calls it a great experience. Shanto shares that their plan was always going to bat first. The way they have been planning and having guys like Rahim, Litton, and Mominul batting in the middle overs gives them a lot of confidence. On declaration, he says that they have a strong bowling attack and with the conditions also favouring, he was pleased with how Rana, Taskin, Taijul, and Mehidy bowled. Shanto further adds that the wicket was a bit tricky to bat in the first hour or so, but Rahim and Mominul batted brilliantly and chose the correct shots. Ends by saying that they need to enjoy this win, and then they will assess the conditions in Sylhet and plan accordingly.

Pakistan's skipper - Shan Masood says that they looked at the conditions and they felt like it's a pacers' wicket, but they failed to put pressure on the opposition. On the effort on the bowlers' performance, he adds that the opposition batters deserve some credit, especially the way Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque played in the first inning. About the two debutants, Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal, he says that they have had a very good start in test cricket, but they have to be consistent and play to their optimum potential. On being asked about the second Test match of the series, Masood says that they have to take the positives from this match and work on the mistakes so that they can make a comeback.

Supported brilliantly by Taijul Islam and Taskin Ahmed, who shared four wickets between them, Rana ensured that Pakistan’s hopes of a miracle chase vanished in a hurry.

The final session blitz - Coming into the final session, the game was balanced on a knife edge, but Bangladesh blew it wide open with a clinical bowling display. They hunted in a pack, incredibly picking up the final seven wickets in just one session to trigger a massive Pakistani collapse. From a steady position at Tea, the visitors simply had no answers to the relentless pressure and intensity of the Bangladeshi attack.

Pakistan fight through as drama builds - Pakistan handled that session well, with Abdullah Fazal and Azan Awais laying a solid platform through a 54-run opening stand before Bangladesh struck back. Shan Masood failed to make any impact, undone by a superb delivery from Nahid Rana, but Fazal continued to impress with another composed fifty, despite surviving a huge scare when Mehidy Hasan Miraz rattled his stumps only for the bails to stay put. Fazal and Salman Agha then calmly guided Pakistan through the remainder of the session, trimming the target down to 152 runs. However, there was some concern right at the end as Fazal looked uncomfortable physically, and his availability for the final session could prove crucial. Bangladesh know that a couple of quick wickets could swing the game dramatically, given Pakistan's thin lower order, setting up a fascinating finish. Join us at 9 am GMT for the final session.

The contest remains finely balanced after a hard-fought session where Pakistan showed plenty of resilience against Bangladesh's spinners. While a few deliveries have stayed low and some have sharply turned, the surface is still far from unplayable. Abdullah Fazal has been hugely impressive on debut, displaying solid technique along with the confidence to play his shots when needed. With one session left, every result is still possible, though at the moment, the draw appears to be the frontrunner.

Bangladesh and Pakistan trade blows - Pakistan will be pleased with how they controlled that session, with Hasan Ali and Shaheen Afridi striking early before Noman Ali finally removed the stubborn Najmul Hossain Shanto, triggering a collapse of 3 wickets for just 24 runs. Bangladesh then declared unexpectedly, leaving Pakistan a tricky period before Lunch, and the hosts responded instantly as Taskin Ahmed removed Imam-ul-Haq in the very first over. Mehidy Hasan Miraz also extracted sharp turn and bounce straight away, and with his outstanding fourth-innings record at home, he could prove decisive in what is shaping into a thrilling finish. A classic finish brewing here - At Lunch on the final day, this Test is beautifully poised, with all three results still firmly on the table. Bangladesh looked to have shared the session evenly after adding some valuable runs and setting Pakistan a challenging target, but the hosts managed to land an early breakthrough right before the interval, nudging the momentum slightly in their favour. With the weather staying clear enough for uninterrupted play, the overcast skies continue to assist the seamers, and the new ball could become a major factor in the next session.
