The day starts in Hyderabad as the Sunrisers Hyderabad host the Kolkata Knight Riders, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, with the first ball set to be bowled at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). For the evening game, action will shift to Ahmedabad as the Gujarat Titans take on the Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium with the first ball scheduled to be bowled at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). CSK outplay MI at AnbuDen - Well, another one-sided game between two of the most successful and decorated teams in IPL history. And on both occasions this season, it has been the men in yellow who have had the upper hand by some distance. The Super Kings will take a lot of confidence from this home win and will travel to Delhi for their next assignment against the Delhi Capitals on Tuesday, 5th May. As far as Mumbai Indians are concerned, they are not mathematically out of the playoff race just yet. The max they reach now is 14 points, which could still be enough, but they will theoretically have to move mountains from here. Winning all five remaining games is non-negotiable, and even then, other results will need to fall their way. They head back home for their next game against Lucknow Super Giants on Monday, 4th May and would hope that they click together as a unit in that game.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - The captain of Chennai Super Kings, Ruturaj Gaikwad, receives the award for his match-winning 67* (48). Ruturaj Gaikwad says that it feels good. Adds that they started well in the first couple of overs with the ball but then let MI get the momentum. Mentions that they pulled things back extremely well with the ball and were chasing 20-30 runs less. While batting, it was just about utilising the Powerplay and one of the top 3 to stay till the end. On Anshul Kamboj, he shares that he’s keeping things simple and sticking to his process, almost thinking like a batter in how he approaches his spells. Noor, on the other hand, needed a bit of rhythm, and on these surfaces he becomes a real threat. Since the third game, he's made a few adjustments and has looked much better. On Akeal Hosein's absence, he says it was mainly about getting the balance right. The idea was to have an extra batter at No. 8 and add a left-handed option down the order, which is why Veer and Ghosh fit into the combination.

CSK's emerging player - Kartik Sharma says that he just thought that he had to chase it down and stay till the end. Adds that the pitch was on the slower side and the ball was stopping a bit. Kartik mentions that he enjoyed each and every shot. Ends by saying that he decided before the game that if he scores runs in this game, he will do the gun celebration.

The captain of Mumbai Indians - Hardik Pandya reflects on the defeat. Hardik acknowledges that his team’s struggles extend beyond a single night to the entire season, noting that Chennai Super Kings outperformed them in every department. Pandya explains that while Mumbai initially aimed for a total of 180-190, they lost momentum after the first ten overs and failed to find a strong finish. Pandya attributes this to the difficulty of playing aggressive shots immediately, adding that the batters struggled to get under the ball during the final overs against a quality bowling attack. Despite the loss, Hardik defends his bowlers’ efforts, jokingly remarking that they couldn't have been more aggressive without throwing fireballs. Hardik concludes by crediting CSK for playing smarter cricket. 

Out of plans - The asking rate was never a concern for CSK as they kept the scoreboard ticking at a healthy clip. For Mumbai Indians, wickets were paramount, and they simply never came. The best bowler theory would suggest that in such situations, you back your ace to create something out of nothing, and with Bumrah kept away during the middle phase, MI may look back and wonder if an extra spell from their best bowler could have changed things. He was eventually introduced, but it was too late by then. Raghu Sharma showed promise on debut, getting good purchase and keeping things tight, but MI lacked the penetration to truly threaten. Gaikwad anchored the chase beautifully with a responsible fifty, and it was a great opportunity for someone like Kartik Sharma to step up and make it count, which he did in style with a half century of his own. In the end, the two made it look thoroughly comfortable.

A stroll in the park - For CSK this season, Sanju Samson's presence beyond the powerplay has been a key driver of their success, and his early dismissal within the restrictions once again left a gap that needed filling. The surface was a touch two-paced and the new ball kicked off the pitch enough to keep the batters honest. Samson was given a lifeline on 6 when Jacks put down a catch, but Bumrah came back to flush him out in the very same over. However, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Urvil Patel refused to let the momentum slip, counterattacking in partnership to put the Mumbai Indians bowlers under real pressure. Despite Urvil being dismissed by Ghazanfar, CSK were placed strongly at 62/2 in the Powerplay.

Not enough on the board - Mumbai Indians made a brisk start through Ryan Rickelton and Naman Dhir, who put on a fluent fifty-plus stand for the second wicket after Will Jacks fell early to give the innings a decent foundation. But the middle order failed to capitalise. Suryakumar Yadav got a start and could not convert, Tilak Varma never really got going, and Hardik Pandya struggled throughout his stay at the crease. Dhir's 57 was the standout contribution, but full credit must go to Chennai Super Kings for the way they fought back in the second half of the innings. Noor, Overton, and Kamboj collectively choked the scoring rate, while Ramkrishna Ghosh impressed on debut. It was Kamboj who stood out the most, returning a three-wicket haul and consistently hitting the right areas to drag things back superbly after the halfway stage. Mumbai Indians were left to rue a middling 159/7, which in all fairness, was never going to be enough.

Outbatted and outbowled - It has been that kind of season for Mumbai Indians. The tag of perennial slow-starters has followed them around, and this is now their seventh defeat in nine games. More concerningly, teams have been winning against them with overs to spare. Tonight can be singled out as a case where they simply could not post a big enough score, but the pattern runs deeper than that. They could not defend 243 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Punjab Kings breezed past 196 with a few overs to spare. The problems are mounting on both ends.

CSK do it with ease - It's yellow fever in Chennai and the home team has come up trumps against their eternal rivals, doing the double over the Mumbai Indians this season. Both their wins against MI have been comprehensive, and this win lifts the Men in Yellow to the sixth position. CSK improve their head-to-head record against MI, now 20-21, with MI just ahead by a hair's breadth. This is Chennai's third home victory out of five games this season and the walls are well and truly being fortified once again in Chepauk.

STRATEGIC BREAK! Easy going for the Super Kings. They need 31 runs from 30 balls. It has been a top knock from Gaikwad so far as he has stuck like glue at the crease and is happy in dealing with singles, with an odd boundary here and there. On the other hand, Kartik Sharma has done well for his 31, which is his best score so far in the IPL and would like to get the job done by being there. Mumbai Indians are staring at another landslide defeat as they simply haven't been able to pick regular wickets. For the positives, Bumrah has been more economical than in the previous game, and Raghu Sharma bowled a tidy spell on debut. However, from ball one it was clear that MI's only route to victory ran through all ten CSK wickets, and that never looks like happening.

STRATEGIC BREAK! It has been a good phase of cricket from both sides, but Chennai Super Kings edge over Mumbai Indians purely based on how rapidly they have scored till this point. With Sanju Samson getting dismissed early, Urvil Patel took charge of proceedings and scored at a brisk pace before chopping one back onto his stumps. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad has looked good so far and he looks set to play the anchor for the most part of this chase. CSK fight back strong to seize control - Chennai Super Kings will be really pleased with their bowling effort, even if it could have been better had Shivam Dube held on to Naman Dhir when he was on just 19. They were a bit inconsistent in the first half, but once debutant Ramakrishna Ghosh removed Suryakumar Yadav, they tightened the screws and took control. Noor Ahmad was excellent as usual through the middle with 2/25, while Anshul Kamboj once again stood out with a three-fer. Mukesh Choudhary impressed with the new ball despite going wicketless, and Jamie Overton’s fiery 1/23 was the perfect finishing touch to a superb comeback in the latter half of the innings. Now, it's up to the batters to finish the job, not just for the two points, but to complete a double over their rivals. Join us in a bit for the second essay.

A quick chat - Jamie Overton says that the wicket looked a bit two-paced as some balls went through nicely, but some of them stayed low too. Mentions that they have somewhat figured out how their bowling unit needs to go about their business. He says Mukesh is swinging it up top, and that Anshul Kamboj has been phenomenal for them this season, bowling two at the top and two at the end and picking up wickets. He adds that Noor, through the middle, has been excellent as well. He calls him (Noor) one of the best spinners in the world and says it is nice to have him in their side. On being asked about bowling pace on deliveries in the death rather than pace off, Overton says that is what has worked for him so far and that he will keep doing what he is doing until he gets hit off that length. He admits he probably bowled a little too short in the last over but got away with it, and says he will stick to his plan. On being asked what will be key for the CSK batters in the run chase, Overton says they just need to play some good cricket, be smart, and try to put the opposition under pressure, as he believes 160 should be a chaseable score.

MI scrap their way to a modest total - Despite losing Will Jacks early, Mumbai Indians stayed in the contest with a steady 58-run stand between Ryan Rickelton and Naman Dhir before the former departed. Suryakumar Yadav looked in good touch but couldn’t convert his start, while Dhir kept losing partners at the other end with little support from the rest, preventing any meaningful partnerships from developing. Dhir brought up a well-made fifty but fell while trying to accelerate, and Hardik Pandya never quite found his rhythm during his stay. MI even needed a six from Trent Boult at the very end just to get close to the 160-run mark.

Chennai hold the edge at the break - It’s been a gripping battle between bat and ball, but it’s the Men in Yellow who walk off at the break with the edge. Mumbai Indians chose to bat and would have wanted more, but credit to Chennai for keeping things tight, especially at the death, where they gave away just 39 runs in the last five overs. The total might not be imposing and MI’s season is on the line, but they've built a reputation for defending tricky scores, and in a do-or-die clash, don’t rule out something special just yet.

19.6: Anshul Kamboj to Krish Bhagat, From around the stump, Kamboj nails the wide yorker, outside off, Krish Bhagat fails to carve it away and gets beaten on the outside edge. Samson collects the ball and lobs an underarm throw to the bowler, seeing Krish struggling to complete the bye. Anshul collects the ball and releases the throw, but ends up hitting Bhagat instead, who runs to the danger end and comes in the way of the throw, and the ball rolls away. Excellent finish from Kamboj and CSK. Strategic Break! Chennai Super Kings have done really well to pull things back in the last few overs. They have kept the runs in check and also picked up wickets, but now they know that they need to execute their plans at the death as well. Hardik Pandya has not looked settled, but he has one of the best strike rates in overs 16-20 in this format and can flip the game on his own. Noor offers more flight on this one and tosses it full and outside off. Tilak Varma is drawn into the drive and looks to smash it over covers but ends up mistiming it badly. The ball gets sliced up around extra cover, where Ruturaj Gaikwad calls for it and pouches it calmly, even though Urvil Patel from cover-point nearly barges into him. Mumbai Indians are 109/4.

Is Dhir stumped out? Sharp glovework from Samson from behind the stumps. He seems confident, so does Noor, but Naman is going nowhere. The on-field umpire sends it upstairs for a review. First, UltraEdge is being checked and it comes up with a flat line. The triple-angled replay comes up and a zoomer is deployed as well. It detects that some part of Naman's back boot is inside the crease and is grounded just when Samson breaks the stumps. NOT OUT loads on the giant screen.

The skipper of Chennai Super Kings - Ruturaj Gaikwad says they would have batted first as well. Details that the wicket looks pretty good and looks on the drier side and thinks it won't change much throughout the game. Admits that in the previous game they were put into a very difficult position but underlines that they recovered well and put on a fighting score on the board. He notes it was a bit of a tough track to bat on in the last game and says everyone's confidence is high. On his message to the team, Gaikwad says there is nothing much, just to stick to their process, keep it simple and try to do the basics right. He acknowledges it is a pressure game and a must-win, but says if they do their process right, the results will come. On team changes, Gaikwad confirms they have a couple of changes, with Ramakrishna Ghosh coming in for Gurjapneet Singh and Prashant Veer coming in for Akeal Hosein.

The captain of Mumbai Indians - Hardik Pandya says that it looks like a good track. In the T20 World Cup, they played against Zimbabwe on this wicket and it played well. Adds that they batted well in the last game and wants to give another chance batting first. Pandya mentions that it has been a must-win situation for the last 7-8 games. There is still a lot to play for, especially for pride. They are professionals and will have to play good cricket to get the result. Hardik shares that they haven't lost games over 40 overs, it has been those 2-3 overs which have cost them. He reckons that if they can take the half-chances, create half-chances, score the runs they need, they will be in a better position. Informs that Raghu Sharma, the leggie, is making his debut. Krish Bhagat also comes back in the side for Ashwani Kumar.
