GT vs SRH Highlights, IPL 2026: Gujarat hammer Hyderabad by 82 runs to strengthen play-off grip

Battle for the playoffs continues - In a top-of-the-table clash, Gujarat Titans have managed to come out on top against Sunrisers Hyderabad, further galvanizing the points table. One more win should secure a playoff berth for GT, whereas SRH will need to win at least one of their remaining two games to have a proper shot at a top-four finish. Next up, another team that is very high up in the table, i.e, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, take on an in-form Kolkata Knight Riders in Raipur. That game will be played on Wednesday, 13 May, and will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). However, you can tune in a lot sooner and catch our build-up. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!

POTM - For his figures of 4-0-28-3, Kagiso Rabada has been given the award. Rabada starts by talking about the missed catch and says that he didn't react fast, and it was a crucial wicket of Ishan Kishan, but luckily, they got the wicket soon after. He says all season, you try to do your best and it's good to be backed. Goes on to say that rhythm is everything and you need it for some things to click. On their bowling, he says that they each have their own natural attributes and then it's all about looking at which one works best on that given deck, and if it doesn't, then try something different. Mentions that SRH gave them the blueprint of how to bowl on this pitch and they just tried to better it.

The captain of the Gujarat Titans - Shubman Gill says the team bowled really well and felt 169 was always going to be a tricky chase on this surface. He adds that the discussion during the batting effort was about getting close to the 170-run mark because, with the bowling attack they possess, they always believed they could defend it. Gill praises Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar for the way they batted to help GT get close to 170, before crediting Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada for setting the tone with the ball in the powerplay. Shubman says the team’s focus is all about being consistent and ruthless, while also pointing out that Gujarat are not a side obsessed with playing one particular brand of cricket. Believes their strength lies in adapting according to the conditions in front of them. Gill also has special praise for Jason Holder, calling him an experienced campaigner who understands exactly the kind of lengths required on surfaces like these. Adds that it is never easy for a fast bowler to bowl four overs on the trot in such conditions and still consistently deliver for the team.

The Presentation ceremony...

Let's quickly recap the first innings - After winning the toss, Pat Cummins had no hesitation in bowling first. His bowlers didn't disappoint as GT were reduced to 26/2 inside the Powerplay. The likes of Praful Hinge and Cummins himself did really well but when GT were 64/3, in came Washington Sundar and things started to change. Sai Sudharsan added 60 runs with Sundar and both of them went on to score individual fifties. SRH finished things off decently as Sakib Hussain picked up a couple of wickets but GT managed to get to a total of 168.

A quick word from Washington Sundar - Sundar starts by talking about his knock and says that the wicket was a bit different from the other games played over here, and he tried to understand what kind of shots to play. On his six against Eshan Malinga, he says that he was looking to hit the yorker away and is happy to get that shot right. He adds that his plan was not to think much and stayed focused on the wicket and had a chat with Sai that one of them had to stay on till the end. Mentions that till the 17th-18th over, he didn't go all out and went on the offensive in the final couple of overs. On facing Rabada and Siraj in the nets, he says that you have got to be disciplined and watch the ball closely and hope to put away the few bad balls that you get. He says that this win speaks volumes about their setup, and they have managed to assess conditions and play accordingly this season.

The skipper of the Sunrisers Hyderabad - Pat Cummins says GT bowled really well and shares that SRH were pretty happy at the innings break. He mentions that it was a tricky wicket and credits Gujarat for making the most of the conditions with the ball. Cummins feels that, as a batting unit, they perhaps could have looked at different ways to get through that first spell, but admits that it was as good a T20 bowling performance as you can see from the Gujarat Titans. Pat says that the batting unit has done well throughout the tournament, and the side is not going to read too much into this defeat. Believes that these kinds of games can happen in a long tournament. The SRH skipper tells that they now head to a couple of venues they know well, which gives the side confidence going into the final phase of the league stage. Adds that winning 6 of their last 8 games has given the team some breathing room in the playoff race, and the focus now will be on going back to what worked during that successful run and putting this defeat behind them quickly.

Boom or bust for SRH with the bat - The lowest total ever for SRH in IPL as they get bundled out for 86 runs, and for a team that has as many as three batters scoring in excess of 400 runs each, this will be a shock for the team and the fans. Travis Head's turbulent season continued as he was dismissed for a duck after looking to be back to his best in the last few games. Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan tried to attack and fell, as Heinrich Klaasen once again had to shoulder all responsibility and try and get his team out of a fix. He did well for a while but was dismissed soon after as the middle order had no answers to the bowling either. Pat Cummins struck a couple of lusty blows at the end, but that was only enough to bring down the margin of defeat to 82 runs.

Pacers lead the rout - A top-class bowling effort from start to finish from GT, but it was brilliantly set up by Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada, who have been the pillars of their recent success. Siraj dismissed a dangerous Travis Head in the first over, ending up with a wicket-maiden, but the way KG followed it up from the other end was something special. Kagiso Rabada bowled four overs on the trot and picked up 3 wickets in a jiffy. Jason Holder, who came in as first change, didn't allow the batters any room to breathe either as he too picked up 3 wickets, including the prized wicket of Heinrich Klaasen. Prasidh Krishna got a couple of scalps on his return from injury as Rashid Khan finished things up, in what is a resounding win for the Titans.

The Titans make it a high-five - Gujarat Titans pick up their fifth straight win on the trot and zoom to the top of the points table with this demolition of Sunrisers Hyderabad. The Titans also take a huge step towards playoff qualification and extend their positive head-to-head against the Sunrisers to 6-1.

14.5: Rashid Khan to Praful Hinge, OUT! STUMPED! Rashid Khan completes the clean-up job. A resounding win for the Gujarat Titans by a margin of 82 runs. Dragged down by Rashid and it is another googly, on middle and leg. A premeditated charge by Praful Hinge but he is nowhere near the pitch of the ball. The ball lands and spins back to go past the inside edge. Jos Buttler moves to his left, gathers the ball cleanly and whips the bails off with Hinge at a point of no return.

14.4: Rashid Khan to Praful Hinge, Out comes the wrong'un and the length is pulled back. Turning into the right-hander, Praful makes room and looks to swing it away on the leg side but misses and gets hit on the pads.

14.3: Rashid Khan to Eshan Malinga, A mix-up but no harm done! Full and landing outside the line of the leg stump. Malinga attempts the sweep but the ball is too full for the shot. It goes off the pads towards short fine leg. Hinge gets across but Eshan is late to set off for the run. There is a shy at the bowling end, but it does not hit the stumps, and Eshan gets home.

14.2: Rashid Khan to Praful Hinge, Attacks the stumps with a googly, on a good length. Praful backs away and hits it down to long on for a single.

14.1: Rashid Khan to Praful Hinge, Low full toss first up by Rashid, around off. Praful Hinge dances down the track and swings at it. Slices it off the outer half over extra cover for a couple of runs.

13.4: Prasidh Krishna to Pat Cummins, OUT! CAUGHT! Pat Cummins falls now. Seam-up ball, on a back of a length, on the off stump. This is bowled at 144.3 kph, Cummins continues to stay leg side of the ball and has a heave across the line. It is sliced off the outer half down to deep third, where Mohammed Siraj is placed a bit fine. He comes in off the ropes and could have taken another step forward but he hangs back and takes the catch around his shin.

13.3: Prasidh Krishna to Pat Cummins, Krishna hits the hard length, outside off. Pat hangs back and swings with all his might but is beaten on the outside edge.

13.2: Prasidh Krishna to Pat Cummins, SIX! All the way! A bit fuller than the previous ball, off and middle. Cummins gets the front leg out of the way and has a hoick across the line. Hits it right between deep square leg and deep mid-wicket and gets enough bat to clear the ropes.

13.1: Prasidh Krishna to Pat Cummins, FOUR! Nicely adjusted! Krishna slips in a good-length ball, tucking the batter up for room. Cummins swivels a bit and clears the front leg. He brings his bat out in front and whips it over mid-wicket to pick up a boundary.

STRATEGIC BREAK! The game is all but gone for Sunrisers Hyderabad, but there's still a lot to play for here. SRH will be hoping that they can bring down the margin of the imminent loss, but they only have 2 wickets in hand and a lot will depend on Pat Cummins if they are to at least cross the 100-run mark. Gujarat Titans have simply been brilliant with the ball, relentless with their execution and they will be eager to wrap things up at the earliest.

Shivang Kumar is early to shuffle across the off stump, and Jason Holder smartly takes pace off, bowling it full and around off. Kumar tries to lap it away but the ball dips and takes the handle of the bat, lobbing up wide to the left of the keeper. Jos Buttler scampers across and puts in the dive to take another fine catch as Holder picks up his third wicket.

12.1: Jason Holder to Pat Cummins, Back of a length, angled well into the batter. Cummins dabs it down through wide mid on and collects a single.

11.6: Prasidh Krishna to Shivang Kumar, Looking to go full but ends up being a full toss on middle and leg. Kumar drives it away wide of long on and picks up another brace. 

11.5: Prasidh Krishna to Shivang Kumar, Length ball on off, Shivang Kumar takes it on and hoists it over mid off. The ball plugs in the outfield around long off and Kumar gets a couple of runs.

10.4: Jason Holder to Nitish Kumar Reddy, OUT! CAUGHT! Jason Holder has done it again, a second wicket in the over and the Sunrisers are in serious danger of not even crossing the three-figure mark. Holder bowls it back of a length and a tad wide outside off. Nitish Kumar Reddy rocks back and punches it fiercely but slightly in the air and straight to point. Washington Sundar takes a sharp catch and the Titans are in a commanding position now.

Jason Holder appeals a bit for a caught behind, but there's nothing much from Jos Buttler behind the stumps. Actually, Shubman Gill has taken the review for a wide, which is given on-field. Nitish Kumar Reddy seems fairly confident that he hasn't nicked it, but the third umpire has a look. Nothing on UltraEdge and slanting well enough down the leg side that the wide call stays.

Holder extracts extra bounce due to his height as well. Heinrich Klaasen hangs back to pull, but it isn't short enough, and the ball skids through, taking the top edge. The ball sails towards short fine leg, but Jos Buttler, the keeper, calls for it. The short fine leg fielder backs away, and Buttler manages to scamper towards the ball and take a brilliant catch. SRH are now 6 down with 113 still needed for the win.

A wobble seam ball at 140.9 kph, bowled on a good length, in that channel on off. A tentative prod by Salil whilst staying leg side of the ball and his feet go nowhere. He pays the ultimate price as the ball catches the outside edge and the keeper, Jos Buttler gobbles it up to his right. SRH are 5 down for 56, needing 113 runs off 62 balls.

Klaasen looks to play it through the off side off the front foot but the ball kicks up to catch the splice of the bat. Luckily for Klaasen, the ball drops in front of Sundar at backward point. The batters cross for one.

STRATEGIC BREAK! At the mid-innings interval, Sai Sudharsan hesitated a bit when asked if 168 was a par score, but with how GT have bowled, it seems very much defendable. Mohammed Siraj got the ball rolling with that wicket-maiden first over, but after that, Kagiso Rabada was just relentless. He bowled 4 overs on the trot and picked up three wickets. SRH have Heinrich Klaasen at the crease and he's been outstanding this season, but he needs Salil Arora to stick around with him and get his side back in the game. A tough ask right now for the batting side as the likes of Prasidh Krishna, Arshad Khan and Rashid Khan are yet to bowl. Right on cue, Prasidh Krishna is introduced in the attack.

7.4: Kagiso Rabada to Salil Arora, A lucky escape for Salil Arora. On a hard length, on middle. Arora hangs deep in the crease and tries to defend it late, close to his body. The ball deflects off an inside edge onto the front boot. Arora initially sets off for a run before turning around in panic, only to helplessly watch the ball roll onto the sticks but the ball does not have enough momentum to dislodge either of the two bails.

Holder goes full now, on off, Salil gets half-forward and plays a punchy drive between cover and mid off. Gill turns around and goes after it. He bends to flick the ball away from the fence but fails to do so and the ball goes into the ropes.

5.5: Kagiso Rabada to Ravichandran Smaran, OUT! CAUGHT! Ravichandran Smaran has been put out of his misery. Mohammed Siraj will be a relieved man. A wobble seam ball at 148.4 kph, on a good length, on off. Smaran gets his hands through the ball and gets hold of it but neither does he get the elevation nor does he manage to find the gap. Shubman Gill makes no mistake at mid off as he snaffles it at waist height. SRH are 32/4, chasing 169.

5.4: Kagiso Rabada to Heinrich Klaasen, Jagging back in on a nagging length at 148.9 kph, on the off stump. Klaasen looks to punch it away but ekes out an inside edge wide of mid-wicket for a run.

Ravichandran Smaran gets his hands high and plays the pull. Hits it flat and straight to deep backward square leg, where Siraj does not pick the ball up and hangs back. Puts in a late dive but the ball dips under his hand and a chance goes begging. They cross.

KG sees Abhishek Sharma give him the charge and drags the length back, bowling it at the batter. Sharma gets cramped for room and tries to just play at it, but gets an inside edge that goes off the body and trickles back onto the stumps. The bails light up, and both of SRH's destructive openers are now back in the hut.

The length is the same again from Siraj but this is bowled outside the line of the leg stump. Head has a tentative attempt at the flick but closes the bat face early and the leading edge is found. The ball flies down to deep backward point where Nishant Sindhu gobbles up the catch and SRH are 0/1.

0.3: Mohammed Siraj to Travis Head, Oh, that hasn't missed the stumps by much. The length is immaculate again from Siraj, lands it on middle and swings it back in this time. Head is taken by surprise and gets beaten as the ball goes past the inside edge and just over the top of the stumps.

0.2: Mohammed Siraj to Travis Head, Another play and a miss! Good length, slightly wide outside off, nibbling away. Head gets a bit low and throws his hands at it but is beaten by the bounce.

He walks out to open with Abhishek Sharma. Prasidh Krishna is GT's Impact Sub, replacing Rahul Tewatia. Mohammed Siraj will open the attack for the home side. Head to face the first ball. ...  THE RUN CHASE ...

Looking ahead - SRH never really allowed GT to hit top gear in their innings, with Pat Cummins rotating his pacers smartly throughout. One thing that became quite evident was that whenever the bowlers dug it too short into the surface, they were punished. That could well serve as a blueprint for the GT quicks as well, with bowling a slightly fuller length likely to be more effective on this pitch. The Sunrisers would certainly have taken this total at the start of the game and will back themselves to chase it down. With the surface not the easiest for stroke-making, this promises to be an interesting second innings. Stay tuned.

A quick word - Sai Sudharsan slips on the Orange Cap. He starts off by saying that the surface was soft and there was a bit of moisture as well. He adds they lost early wickets and for that reason, he decided to bat deep. On the score they have put, Sai thinks 10 more runs would have given them a cushion, but hopes the bowlers will do the job. He further adds that 175-180 would've been a great score, but this total is par. Sudharsan reckons hitting the good length will be crucial on this surface. He is confident that the bowling unit will defend the total.

The push towards 170 - Sai eventually fell just as Gujarat were looking to push in the back end. It needed someone already set at the crease to take charge because it was not going to be easy for a new batter like Jason Holder to walk in and start going bang-bang straight away on this surface. It was Washington Sundar who came through with a valuable hand for the home side and helped GT gather crucial runs in the final few overs.

SRH landed the first punch - After losing the toss, it was the first time the Titans batted first in Ahmedabad this season. The slowness of the surface was evident in the first couple of overs itself, with the ball stopping a bit on the batters. To SRH's credit, they were disciplined right through that phase with the ball, and Praful Hinge was rewarded with a couple of big wickets. Sai Sudharsan did not get much of the strike during the powerplay, but he held the innings together for GT through the middle phase by stitching together a couple of important partnerships. 

GT finish with 168 - 160-170 would be a decent total, that’s what GT's assistant coach, Ashish Kapoor, had said during the mid-innings chat, and his side has managed to get right around that mark. It was tough going for the most part on a sluggish surface, but that late burst of 35 runs in the final three overs has helped Gujarat push close to 170.

19.6: Sakib Hussain to Rahul Tewatia, FOUR! Gets it away, does Rahul Tewatia and Gujarat Titans finish with 168/5 on the board. This is bowled short and at the batter. Tewatia manages to get inside the line and he helps the pull well wide of fine leg, to the right of the fielder down there and picks up a boundary to end the first innings.

19.5: Sakib Hussain to Washington Sundar, OUT! CAUGHT! A deceptive slower ball and this is turning out to be a fine final over from Sakib Hussain. Bowled just back of a length and outside off. It is the off cutter that grips and Washington Sundar is way too early into the attempted pull. Sundar can't even swing fully across the line and ends up getting a top edge towards the square leg region. The keeper, Ishan Kishan, jogs after it but soon realises that he has a lot of ground to cover and puts on the afterburners, diving forward and taking a brilliant catch.

STRATEGIC BREAK! Gujarat Titans are just starting to build a bit of momentum here, and Pat Cummins will be eager to break this stand quickly, much like SRH did earlier when the partnership between Nishant Sindhu and Sai Sudharsan was beginning to settle in. The slow nature of the surface has been quite evident throughout, and it won't be easy for a new batter to walk in and start striking big straight away. That is why this set pair at the crease becomes even more important from GT's perspective heading into the death overs. Sensing the need to break this stand, Cummins brings himself on.
