Chennai Super Kings have signed South African all-rounder Dian Forrester as a replacement for injured English all-rounder Jamie Overton for the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2026 season. Forrester will join the franchise for INR 75 lakh after Overton was ruled out with a right-thigh injury.

CSK confirmed on Wednesday, May 13, that Overton returned to the United Kingdom for “further assessment and management” after suffering the injury ahead of their upcoming match against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow.

The English all-rounder had become an important figure in CSK’s campaign this season. Overton played 10 matches and picked up 14 wickets at an average of 17.78 and an economy rate of 8.89. He also scored 136 runs at a strike-rate of 158.13, providing quick runs in the lower middle order.

Overton’s last appearance came in CSK’s five-wicket win over LSG at Chepauk on May 11, where he produced one of his best performances of the season. After Lucknow raced to 91/1 in the Powerplay, Overton pulled things back with figures of 3 for 36 as CSK restricted the visitors to 203. Chennai chased down the target in the final over, with Overton winning the Player of the Match award.

Forrester joins CSK after making his international debut for South Africa national cricket team against New Zealand national cricket team in March 2026. The all-rounder has played five international matches so far and scored 83 runs.

The signing comes during a season in which CSK have struggled with multiple injuries. Earlier on Wednesday, the franchise announced Karnataka all-rounder Macneil Noronha as a replacement for injured pacer Ramakrishna Ghosh, who suffered a broken foot on his IPL debut.

CSK had already lost Australian fast bowler Nathan Ellis before the season due to a hamstring injury. Left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed was later sidelined with a quadricep injury, while young batter Ayush Mhatre suffered a hamstring problem during the campaign.

South African batter Dewald Brevis also missed the first three matches of the season because of a side strain. Veteran wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni and Australian fast bowler Spencer Johnson are yet to feature in IPL 2026.

Despite the injuries, CSK remain in contention for a playoff place. The five-time champions are currently fifth on the points table with 12 points from 11 matches and remain in control of their qualification hopes heading into the final phase of the league stage.
