Too little, too late? Mitchell Marsh hits 2nd IPL century amid LSG's early exit threat
IPL 2026, LSG vs RCB: Mitchell Marsh smashed the fastest century by a Lucknow Super Giants batter in the history of the tournament. But has it come too late for LSG given that they are on the cusp of an early elimination?

Mitchell Marsh lit up the Ekana Stadium with his maiden IPL hundred as Lucknow Super Giants took on Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Thursday, May 7. Marsh produced a sensational knock, bringing up his century in just 49 balls. The opener reached the milestone by smashing an attempted yorker from Romario Shepherd through the offside for a boundary.

Marsh also registered the fastest century by an LSG batter, surpassing KL Rahul’s 56-ball hundred against Mumbai Indians in 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium. However, the bigger question remains whether the knock has come too late for the Super Giants. LSG are struggling near the bottom of the table, and even winning all their remaining matches may not guarantee them a playoff spot.
MARSH TAKES DOWN RCB BOWLERS
Marsh tore into the RCB bowling attack from the very beginning, showing complete dominance. Despite two rain interruptions halting play, Marsh never lost momentum and continued to attack every bowler with remarkable ease.
The Australian opener got going with a glorious straight six off Josh Hazlewood before carving Bhuvneshwar Kumar over cover for another maximum. Marsh looked unstoppable once the spinners came into the attack, taking apart Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma with towering sixes and brutal cuts through the off-side.
While young Arshin Kulkarni struggled to find timing at the other end, Marsh made batting look effortless. He reached his fastest IPL fifty off just 20 balls, punishing anything short or overpitched. Rasikh Salam and Hazlewood were dispatched to all parts of the ground as Marsh mixed elegant drives with powerful pulls.
Even yorkers from Hazlewood and Romario Shepherd failed to slow him down. Marsh eventually brought up his century drilling Shepherd through point for four. Helmet off and bat raised, the Australian soaked in the applause after producing one of the finest knocks in Lucknow Super Giants history.
