Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada have emerged as the heartbeat of Gujarat Titans’ bowling attack in IPL 2026, with the pace duo playing a central role in taking the franchise to Qualifier 1. Their ability to break games open in the powerplay has given GT a major edge throughout the season and turned them into one of the most complete bowling units in the tournament.

As Gujarat Titans prepare to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Qualifier 1 in Dharamsala on May 26, assistant coach Vijay Dahiya highlighted the understanding between Siraj and Rabada while speaking at the pre-match press conference. Dahiya said the partnership between the two fast bowlers has gone beyond individual brilliance and become one of the defining strengths of the side this season.

“One thing about Siraj is his character. He channels all his energy towards one goal, and that is very important. He also has a very able partner at the other end. The chemistry between the two is phenomenal, not just on the field but off it as well,” Dahiya said.

“They understand each other mentally and skill-wise. They know how the game is progressing and what each of them needs to do. Usually, we talk about partnerships in batting, but they have built a very strong bowling partnership.”

Dahiya also credited head coach Ashish Nehra for managing two very different fast bowlers and helping them operate together as a cohesive unit despite their contrasting personalities and backgrounds.

“A lot of credit should also go to Ashish Nehra. The way he handles both of them is excellent. They are different personalities, come from different environments, and deal with different pressures while playing international cricket. But both are top-class bowlers and they are doing really well,” he added.

The numbers reflect just how influential the pair has been this season. Siraj has taken 17 wickets in 14 matches at an economy of 8.59, while Rabada has gone even bigger with 24 wickets in 14 matches at an economy of 9.19. More importantly, the duo has consistently delivered breakthroughs in the toughest phases of the innings, often allowing Gujarat Titans to seize control before opposition batting units could settle.

SIRAJ AND RABADA: POWERPLAY KINGS OF GT

Gujarat Titans’ dominance in IPL 2026 has largely been built on their ability to choke sides early, and Siraj has been at the centre of that strategy. The Indian pacer picked up 13 wickets in the powerplay this season while also bowling a tournament-high 148 dot balls in just 306 deliveries, relentlessly building pressure from the very first over.

Siraj repeatedly gave GT early control by attacking top-order batters aggressively rather than merely containing runs. One of his standout spells came against Chennai Super Kings, where he ripped through the batting lineup inside the powerplay by dismissing Ruturaj Gaikwad and Urvil Patel among his three wickets. The spell laid the foundation for Gujarat Titans’ crushing 89-run win.

Rabada, meanwhile, has been equally devastating with the new ball. The South African quick claimed 17 wickets in the powerplay this season, equalling Mohammed Shami’s all-time IPL record for most wickets in the phase in a single edition. His ability to generate pace and bounce while attacking the stumps has perfectly complemented Siraj’s relentless accuracy.

Together, the duo has created a rhythm where one bowler constantly builds pressure while the other cashes in with wickets, making GT one of the hardest sides to recover against after the first six overs.

RCB VS GT: BATTLE OF PACE DUOS

Interestingly, Gujarat Titans now head into Qualifier 1 against another side powered heavily by fast bowling. Royal Challengers Bengaluru have also relied on their experienced pace pair of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood throughout IPL 2026, with both bowlers delivering crucial breakthroughs in the powerplay and death overs.

That sets up an intriguing contest in Dharamsala, where conditions are expected to assist strokeplay but also reward disciplined fast bowling. While Gujarat Titans boast the tournament’s most destructive new-ball combination in Siraj and Rabada, RCB’s experienced duo has equally been central to Bengaluru’s run deep into the playoffs.

With both teams carrying explosive batting lineups, the Qualifier 1 clash may ultimately come down to which pace attack controls the powerplay better and handles pressure moments more effectively.
