Struggling Sunrisers brace for Sooryavanshi challenge against in-form Royals

IPL 2026, SRH vs RR: Rajasthan Royals have won all their matches thus far and will be looking to carry their winning run when they face an indifferent-looking Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday.

Rajasthan Royals have been on an absolute rampage, tightening their grip at the top of the table in IPL 2026. Having won all their matches so far, Riyan Parag’s men look like the team to beat in the competition. Sunrisers Hyderabad will therefore have their task cut out when they face the 2008 champions on Monday in Hyderabad. The most intriguing battle will be how SRH handle the storm named Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

The Royals have historically struggled at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, but based on current form, they will head into the game as favourites. SRH, meanwhile, have floundered this season, losing three of their four matches. Their bowling has been below par, and against an in-form RR batting line-up, they will need to be at their very best.

SOORYAVANSHI VS SRH BOWLERS

Barring their game against the Kolkata Knight Riders, it’s fair to say that the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers have struggled in the competition. They have failed to defend totals in three of their four matches, exposing clear vulnerabilities.

Against the Royals, they will face Sooryavanshi, who has shown no regard for reputation, taking on the likes of Josh Hazlewood and Jasprit Bumrah with confidence and utmost ease. With SRH’s bowling not at its best, Sooryavanshi will be eager to make an impact.

Hyderabad has been a batting-friendly venue, and if SRH’s bowlers fail to hit the right areas, they could be in for a long day with Sooryavanshi in jaw-dropping form. While SRH haven’t faced Sooryavanshi before, they will be well aware of the threat he poses if not dismissed early.

TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON SRH BATTERS?

With the bowlers struggling, pressure has mounted on the Sunrisers Hyderabad batters. Earlier, Heinrich Klaasen had said that the team needs around 220–230 runs to give their bowlers a realistic chance of winning.

While Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Klaasen are among the cleanest strikers in world cricket, with Nitish Reddy and Aniket Verma also capable hitters, expecting 220–230 every game is unrealistic.

For SRH to bounce back, their bowlers need to step up. They have sorely missed Pat Cummins, who is yet to feature this season. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan, leading an IPL side for the first time, has felt the pressure, which has reflected in his batting.

After his 80 against RCB in the tournament opener last month, Kishan has managed scores of just 14, 1 and 27. With SRH’s bowling underperforming, he faces another stern test against the Rajasthan Royals.

DO RAJASTHAN HAVE REASONS TO WORRY?

As far as the Rajasthan Royals are concerned, a win in their next game would make them strong contenders for a playoff spot. They have enjoyed explosive starts from their openers, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal, while Dhruv Jurel has also been among the runs. The trio at the top has been in excellent form.

However, beyond them, the Royals’ batting has lacked consistency. Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer haven’t made significant contributions, while Ravindra Jadeja is yet to find his best form with the bat.The Sunrisers Hyderabad have struggled with their bowling, but they will know that early wickets—especially of Jaiswal, Sooryavanshi and Jurel—could put the Royals’ middle order under immense pressure.

HYDERABAD: PITCH AND CONDITIONS

The pitch in Hyderabad has been excellent for batting over the last three seasons. In the only game at the venue so far, Nitish Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen showed that batters can play their shots freely. However, there has also been some assistance for bowlers, as highlighted by Mohammed Shami. Given the venue’s history, teams are likely to prefer chasing.

There is no chance of rain in Hyderabad on Monday, but conditions will be hot, with temperatures hovering between 35°C and 37°C. The skies are expected to be clear, with slightly humid conditions.
