Tim David revealed that his jaw-dropping 106-metre six against Chennai Super Kings was no fluke, but the result of a unique training drill at Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The Australian power-hitter said the team regularly competes to hit the stadium roof during practice sessions.

David’s monstrous strike over the roof at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium became one of the standout moments of IPL 2026. Speaking after the match, he explained how those training competitions translate into real-match execution, with batting coach Dinesh Karthik also highlighting the role of repetition in sharpening his power-hitting.

“Yeah, I've been getting in trouble with training the boys. We have competitions to try and hit them on the roof and we're obviously on the side pitches. So to get one during a match out of the middle is pretty pleasing. And Jamie's bowling quicker at that stage. So, get on the one, help it up on the roof. It's good fun," David said.

David’s innings was the defining act in RCB’s dominant performance. Walking in with the platform already set by Rajat Patidar and Devdutt Padikkal, he turned a strong total into an unassailable one, smashing an unbeaten 70 off 25 balls. His late surge, including 30 runs off a single over from Jamie Overton, helped RCB finish at 250/3 before bowling CSK out for 207.

HOW TIM DAVID WREAKED HAVOC VS CSK

David’s knock was a brutal exhibition of power-hitting combined with precision. He targeted the shorter boundaries, capitalised on any slight errors, and maintained a relentless tempo through the death overs.

His 106-metre six off Overton stood out not just for its distance but for its timing and execution, clearing the stadium roof and sending the Bengaluru crowd into a frenzy. The over itself, which yielded 30 runs, completely broke CSK’s resistance.

Even when he had a slice of luck, bowled off a no-ball earlier in his innings, David made sure CSK paid the price. He finished with eight sixes and three boundaries, powering RCB’s late onslaught that saw them add over 100 runs in the final phase.

Karthik later described David as a naturally gifted striker whose power comes not just from ability but from consistent, focused practice. On a night where everything clicked, that preparation translated into complete domination.
