Rishabh Pant faced the ire of fans after he fell cheaply in Lucknow Super Giants’ IPL 2026 clash against Gujarat Titans on Sunday, April 12 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Batting at No.3, Pant scored 18 runs off 11 balls, hitting two fours and a six, before Mohammed Siraj accounted for his wicket.

Pant showed promise early in his knock but ultimately threw his wicket away. He began aggressively, stepping out to Kagiso Rabada and lofting him for a boundary before slashing another four. He balanced caution with intent against Siraj, rotating the strike and playing a crisp cover drive. Pant also pulled Rabada for a flat six but continued to take risks with expansive strokes.

Pant’s cameo ended when he attempted to loft Siraj without the required length. He miscued badly, sending a swirling catch towards the cover region, where Rahul Tewatia settled under it comfortably to complete the dismissal. Pant departed with the Super Giants at 45 for two in 4.1 overs, having added 31 runs for the second wicket with Aiden Markram.

Thereafter, fans trolled Pant for the reckless shot. Many criticised his approach, with some calling him the worst batter in white-ball cricket. One fan even remarked that Pant has yet to justify his Rs 27 crore price tag, after becoming the most expensive player in IPL history when he joined LSG in last year’s mega auction.

Here's how fans trolled Rishabh Pant

HOW HAS PANT PLAYED IN IPL 2026?

Pant has endured a mixed IPL 2026 campaign, combining flashes of brilliance with inconsistency. In four games, he has scored 103 runs at an average of 34.33 and a strike rate of 130.37. Earlier, he played an impactful, match-winning knock of 68 that helped Lucknow Super Giants chase down a target against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

However, his overall returns have been underwhelming. In recent outings, Pant has struggled for consistency, registering scores of 7, 68, 10 and 18, highlighting his inability to convert starts into substantial innings. His strike rate has fluctuated, reflecting his aggressive approach, but it has also led to risky dismissals.

Pant will be looking to notch up a big score when the Super Giants lock horns with Rajat Patidar’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 15 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
