SRH vs CSK Highlights, IPL 2026: Sunrisers win thriller at Uppal, beat Chennai by 10 runs

The captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad - Ishan Kishan says it is lovely to have a group of young bowlers coming up with their own plans. He adds that watching Praful, Sakib and Shivang improve day by day in training makes it important to trust them. Kishan feels that they were 30-40 runs short and admits that they need to be better with their shot selection. Kishan also says they are not focusing on the points table at the moment, instead looking to keep their heads down and take it one match at a time.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH -  Eshan Malinga wins the award for producing impressive figures of 3/29 from his 4 overs. Malinga says that they had a good bowling plan as a team, and they knew how to play at this kind of pitch, and it was all about executing. Adds that Ishan Kishan kept on asking him about what type of deliveries he was going to bowl, so that the field could be set accordingly. On getting some reverse swing at the death, Malinga says that it is very important for a good bowler to get it to reverse.

SRH's batting recap - It was a quiet start to the game after SRH were inserted to bat, before Abhishek Sharma unleashed an assault and brought up a 15-ball fifty. Once he fell, Heinrich Klaasen was left to fight a lone battle, and he too departed after reaching his half-century. SRH were deprived of a late flourish as CSK produced a remarkable bowling display at the death. By Klaasen’s own admission at the halfway mark, they were about 10 runs short of a par total, but their bowlers stepped up admirably to seal the win.

SRH fought back and never looked back - Dewald Brevis and Sarfaraz Khan both fell while going for the big shots and will look back at those moments, as they could have taken it upon themselves to guide the team home. Matthew Short played the anchor role but could not see it through either. SRH pounced on the opening provided by Sarfaraz’s departure, with Ishan Kishan rotating his bowlers smartly to put the game beyond CSK's reach. The likes of Sakib Hussain, Shivang Kumar and Eshan Malinga did not disappoint, with Sakib putting behind him a tough start to fight back strongly.

Mhatre led the Powerplay charge - CSK lost Sanju Samson early, but Ayush Mhatre once again ensured they made the Powerplay count. Towards the back end, he pulled up with a hamstring issue and fell soon after, and so did Ruturaj Gaikwad. That lifted SRH’s spirits, but despite losing three wickets, CSK had raced to 76 in the Powerplay. That brought the required run rate down under 9, and it was about managing the chase from there.

A quick word with SRH's star all-rounder - Nitish Kumar Reddy says that everyone did a fine job, and it was a team effort, and thankfully, it came in a winning cause. On his bowling, he tried to bowl according to the situation and to his field. He reckons that it was a good pitch for the spinners but is happy with the way their seamers bowled. Reddy also adds that it was key to hit the top of off on this deck and on Shivang Kumar, NKR says that his mystery bowling is helping them a lot and hopes that he continues in the same way throughout the tournament.

The captain of the Chennai Super Kings - Ruturaj Gaikwad says that with how the Powerplay went with the ball, they were looking at 220 or 230, but the way they pulled things back with the ball was great to see. Adds that with just about 80 runs or so needed in the last 10 overs, all they needed to do was build a couple of stands. Gaikwad feels that the couple of overs after the 10th over mark changed things and gives credit to the SRH bowlers for the way they fought back. On the CSK bowling, he says that it is good to see how they are coming along in the last 2-3 matches, and it was good to see how they managed to cash in on the momentum. On Kamboj, he says that he is really glad to have him in the side, and his death bowling has really improved.

SRH get the job done - Back-to-back wins at home for the Sunrisers, and for the first time this season, they have secured consecutive victories. Both wins have largely come on the back of impressive bowling efforts. CSK fail to track down a 190-plus target once again in the IPL. It is their 10th successive unsuccessful attempt in a full 20-over chase, with the last such successful pursuit coming back in 2018.

19.6: Praful Hinge to Anshul Kamboj, That's it, Praful Hinge has done it and Sunrisers Hyderabad win by 10 runs. Praful goes for the yorker at the toes again but errs on the fuller side. Anshul Kamboj clips the low full toss off his legs and towards deep mid-wicket for a single. Great comeback from Hinge, especially given how the first over of the chase went.

19.5: Praful Hinge to Noor Ahmad, Another fine delivery. Full and at the toes, Noor Ahmad jams it across through mid-wicket and picks up a single in the deep. A huge roar from the crowd as they are now certain that without any extras, the game is in the bag for the home side.

Hussain goes quick and full again, aims it at the toes. Dube gets rushed as he looks to flick it away and ends up playing all around it. STRATEGIC BREAK! An action-packed Powerplay that had everything. A double strike towards the back end has ensured a better ending to the Powerplay for SRH. With plenty of firepower still in the shed for CSK, it is about chipping away at the wickets from SRH's perspective. As for CSK, given the start they have got in the Powerplay, it is now about managing the chase, and how their stroke-making holds up as the ball gets older and softer remains to be seen. Malinga immediately goes short and surprises the batter with the bumper, bowling it around the front shoulder. Gaikwad takes on the pull but only gets a glove on it. The ball lobs behind and Salil Arora pouches it comfortably. CSK are 66/3 now, chasing 195 for the win.

4.6: Nitish Kumar Reddy to Matthew Short, Keeps it at the sticks and the length stays full, Short knocks it to mid off.

Ayush Mhatre's gamble doesn't pay off, and Sunrisers Hyderabad get a bonus wicket. Matthew Short comes out to bat at number 4.

4.4: Nitish Kumar Reddy to Ayush Mhatre, OUT! CAUGHT! A stunning grab by Heinrich Klaasen. Nitish Kumar Reddy lets out a big roar. This is on a length, outside off. Mhatre stays rooted to the crease and swings at it. Carves it off the outer half towards wide mid off, where Klaasen moves swiftly to his left and leaps before stretching both hands in that direction to cling onto the catch. The ball stays in his grasp even as his elbow hits the turf, and he does well to roll over and soften the landing.

It seems Ayush Mhatre will have to go off the field. He really hobbled his way to the other end on the last single, but Mhatre's sent the physio back and wants to continue. Very interesting call and we might see a few big swings from him now.

4.3: Nitish Kumar Reddy to Ruturaj Gaikwad, Oh, dear! Ayush Mhatre is really struggling. Full and on middle. Gaikwad brings his bat out in front and knocks it to the right of mid on. Mhatre hobbles to the other end and the mid on fielder spots that to fire in a throw at Ayush's end. He does not hit. The keeper, Salil Arora collects the throw before releasing an underarm throw at the batting end but Mhatre is in by then.

Uh, oh! This doesn't look good. Ayush Mhatre is seen holding his left hamstring and the pain seems to be growing by the second. Mhatre seems to be in some agony and the physio rushed out to check on him. Sometimes, when you come in as an Impact Sub, having not been in the field, the muscles can be a bit tight and pull-up. The physio is still tending to Mhatre and SRH won't mind this extended break, as it takes momentum off CSK's hands. Thankfully, Ayush is finally back on his feet and seems good to go. Let's get back to the action.

4.2: Nitish Kumar Reddy to Ruturaj Gaikwad, The 50-run stand comes up between this pair. Reddy spots Gaikwad backing away and he follows him with a good-length delivery. Ruturaj nudges it in front of deep square leg and Mhatre charges back to the bowling end before the throw comes in. He pulls up just after getting home and is clutching his left hamstring.

Angled in, on a good length, on middle. Mhatre is nowhere near the pitch of the ball but he still swings through the line. It is skied over mid on, where Klaasen runs over his left shoulder but the ball keeps drifting away from him. He flings himself but the ball clips his fingertips and dribbles towards the ropes. Heinrich does well to get back up on his feet and he flicks the ball away from the fence, saving a run for his side.

... The Run Chase ...

An underpar total or defendable? Chennai Super Kings will certainly be the happier of the two sides at the break but if the dew doesn't come in, Sunrisers Hyderabad will certainly have a chance, given that CSK haven't chased a total in excess of 190 runs since the 2018 season. It should be an exciting chase, nonetheless, so stay tuned for the action.

Here's Klaasen now, having a quick chat - Heinrich Klaasen collects the Orange Cap and hands over the Purple Cap to Anshul Kamboj. Klaasen says the surface was a good one to bat on but admits it slowed up a touch in the backend. He feels that they finished about 10 runs below par and stresses that the bowlers have a lot of work to do. On the older ball, he says it made batting difficult and adds that Noor extracted a bit of spin as well, crediting the CSK bowlers for bowling extremely well through the back half of the innings. On what CSK did right to swing things in their favour, Klaasen takes a moment before admitting it is a tough one to answer, saying simply that SRH lost too many wickets in the crucial phases. On his own form this IPL, Klaasen says the rhythm is back and the swing feels much better, crediting a switch back to the heavy bat as a possible factor. He adds that he would have taken a hundred runs less in exchange for four more wins. He signs off by saying the tournament is still long and a big win tonight would be a huge boost.

SRH fail to cash in - The Sunrisers were cruising at 75/0 in 5.4 overs, but then they lost two wickets on the final two deliveries of the Powerplay and it all started to go downhill from there. Abhishek Sharma notched up a half-century off just 15 balls, the fastest for SRH this season but couldn't go on and turn it into a big knock. Heinrich Klaasen was yet again the saviour in the middle overs but he didn't get much support from the other end and he too got out after scoring a fifty. SRH's hand was forced and they brought on Liam Livingstone as the Impact Sub but he only faced 5 out of the last 16 balls and scored one run.

CSK pull things back - Sunrisers Hyderabad were off to a flier and it looked like we were going to see a score of about 210-220 runs minimum, but Jamie Overton completely changed the complexion of the first innings. Overton went on to pick up 3 wickets in total but the likes of Gurjapneet Singh and especially Anshul Kamboj closed things off brilliantly. Kamboj too ended with 3 wickets to his name and all the momentum is now with the visiting side.

The record stays intact - Sunrisers Hyderabad still haven't managed to score 200 or more runs against Chennai Super Kings and even though this is now their highest score against the Men in Yellow, CSK will feel they have done a fine job here. Just 17 runs in the last 3 overs, and SRH might be 15-20 runs short here.

19.6: Anshul Kamboj to Liam Livingstone, OUT! TAKEN EASILY! CSK manage to restrict SRH below 200. A dipping full toss around knee height, on middle. Livingstone gets down on a knee and lines up a big heave into the leg side but mistimes it off the inner half. The ball sails only as far as deep mid-wicket, where Dewald Brevis takes a simple catching practice yards ahead of the ropes. Kamboj finishes with a three-for. Just 7 runs from the final over. SUNRISERS HYDERABAD FINISH ON 194/9!

19.5: Anshul Kamboj to Praful Hinge, Full and outside off, inside the guideline. Hinge leaves it and sneaks a bye. Samson throws underarm to Kamboj but the bowler cannot collect it cleanly. Sunrisers take the review looking for a wide. But the replay shows that the ball is fairly within the revised wide guideline. Fair delivery.

Anshul continues from around-the-wicket angle and fires another perfect wide yorker, outside off. Heinrich Klaasen throws his bat at it with minimal foot movement, trying to crash through the cover region, but ends up inside edging it and the ball makes an absolute mess of the middle pole. A fine knock from Klaasen comes to an end, though he will be disappointed to not bat till the end. The Sunrisers are 177/6.

Samson appeals for caught behind, but the umpire denies. He is the only one who looked interested and CSK have gone upstairs for a review. And whoa! UltraEdge does show a clear spike when the ball is next to the bat. Abhishek Sharma looked dangerous until he was there. But has to walk back. Miscues it off the cue end and ends up hitting this to the left of Ruturaj Gaikwad at mid off. RG glides to his left before diving and gathering this inches over the ground. Head has to walk back. 

Is that a fair catch? Travis Head starts walking and Ruturaj Gaikwad is claiming the catch. It is given on-field, and CSK get the breakthrough.
