India finally ended their decades-long wait for a Women’s World Cup title after defeating South Africa in the final on Sunday, November 2, in Navi Mumbai. Powered by a brisk 87 from Shafali Verma and a five-wicket haul by Deepti Sharma, India sealed a commanding 52-run victory in front of a packed home crowd.
With the triumph, Harmanpreet Kaur became only the third Indian captain — after Kapil Dev in 1983 and MS Dhoni in 2011 — to lift the 50-over World Cup for the country.
