On his 35th birthday, Virat Kohli equaled Sachin Tendulkar's ODI world record of 49 hundreds. Virat Kohli notched up his second World Cup 2023 hundred, which was also No. 49 for the former India captain as he played a terrific orthodox knock on a not-so-straightforward pitch at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata against South Africa. | IND vs SA Scorecard | Points Table |

On Sunday, November 5, Virat Kohli ended the wait after having missed the milestone in his last three knocks. Kohli was out for 88 against Sri Lanka on Thursday at the Wankhede Stadium as he missed an opportunity to equal the Master Blaster's record when the legendary batter was watching the World Cup match from the stands in Mumbai.

Virat Kohli hit his 49th ODI hundred in his 289th match, 173 matches faster than his idol Sachin Tendulkar. A day after the Tendulkar statue was inaugurated at the Wankhde, it was coronation time for Kohli. It was Virat Kohli's fourth World Cup hundred and the first time the chase master hit more than one hundred in a single edition of the tournament.

It was not an easy pitch to bat on at the Eden Gardens. Thanks to Rohit Sharma's sensational blitz of 24-ball 40, India posted 91 runs in the first 10 overs. However, India lost Rohit and fellow opener Shubman Gill in quick succession after which Kohli anchored the innings along with Shreyas Iyer. The two added 134 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Shreyas Iyer departed for 77 in the 37th over and Virat Kohli showcased his ability to not throw it away as he hung in and anchored the Indian innings, taking the team past 300.

Kohli got to his hundred in 119 balls, hitting 10 boundaries. No sixes were hit as Kohli ran hard between wickets on a humid afternoon at the iconic venue.

Kohli has been in sensational touch in his 4th World Cup campaign, hitting 4 fifties and 2 hundreds, with the other one coming against Bangladesh. Kohli missed out on an opportunity to equal Sachin Tendulkar's tally against New Zealand in Dharamsala last month as he was out on 95.
