World Cup is the biggest stage for Bangladesh to show talent: Nigar Sultana

Nigar Sultana feels that the Women's World Cup 2025 is the biggest stage for Bangladesh to show their talent and get big teams to play against them in the coming years. Bangladesh won their first match in the tournament.

"I think for me, this is the biggest stage where we can show our capabilities. Then, teams like England or Australia might take more interest in playing against us. We’ve always said that we don’t play enough international games or series against stronger sides, and that has definitely been a drawback. But after 2022, when we got into the FTP, we played a lot more series against good teams, both home and away. That gave us valuable experience and learning opportunities. Coming into this World Cup, we’ve had good exposure, which will help us play with much more confidence. We’re looking forward to the next FTP as well — we’ll be playing against Australia in Australia and also against England. As a team, we are growing, we want to keep learning, and I think it’s a great opportunity for us," said Sultana.

Video: PM Modi hugs, touches feet of 98-year-old BJP veteran in Bengal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hugged and honoured 98-year-old Makhanlal Sarkar, one of the earliest and senior most members of the BJP. The scene unfolded on the stage ahead of Suvendu Adhikari's swearing-in as West Bengal's Chief Minister in Kolkata. PM Modi also touched Sarkar's feet and presented a shawl to him as a mark of respect. In 1952, Sarkar was arrested in Kashmir while he was accompanying Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee as the latter was marching to hoist the tricolour there. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya described the elderly party leader as "one of the earliest grassroots figures associated with the nationalist movement in post-Independence India."
