Ravi Shastri lauds Virat Kohli's 'never say die' attitude

Team India coach Ravi Shastri lauded Virat Kohli for his leadership in a tough South African tour.

Kohli's rampaging run in the South Africa series cemented his place as one of the best players of the modern era, not just in one-day cricket but across all formats.

India's tour of South Africa was going to be Kohli's biggest challenge till now as captain and as a batsman and he passed both those tests with flying colours.

Kohli amassed 871 runs on the tour and finished as the highest run-getter in the Test and ODI series with 286 and 558 runs respectively.

His outstanding form with the bat helped India beat South Africa in the third Test at Johannesburg and then clinch the six-match ODI series 5-1 and the T20I series 2-1.

India head coach Ravi Shastri attributes the captain's phenomenal success to his mental toughness as a cricketer.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hugged and honoured 98-year-old Makhanlal Sarkar, one of the earliest and senior most members of the BJP. The scene unfolded on the stage ahead of Suvendu Adhikari's swearing-in as West Bengal's Chief Minister in Kolkata. PM Modi also touched Sarkar's feet and presented a shawl to him as a mark of respect. In 1952, Sarkar was arrested in Kashmir while he was accompanying Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee as the latter was marching to hoist the tricolour there. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya described the elderly party leader as "one of the earliest grassroots figures associated with the nationalist movement in post-Independence India."
