The Moto E may not dazzle in terms of hardware, but it offers consumers class-leading performance and a screen that is one of the best in a phone costing less than Rs 10,000. Just to make the deal sweeter, it is also a phone with a water-resistant body. It is not water proof but is sealed enough to survive splashes and probably light rain when it is in pocket.

With a 4.7-inch screen, the iPhone 6 marks a break from the past for Apple. It is a phone that finally brings a big screen to iPhone users who until now were lusting after big Android phones but couldn't make the jump to the dark side. Apart from the brilliant screen, the iPhone 6 also packs in one of the best cameras seen in a smartphone. Overall, it is a worthy successor to the iPhone of the 2013. It is sleek and good-looking, performs admirably well, packs in a fantastic camera and screen and is powered by iOS, which may not be as good as Android, but is reliable and easy on eyes.

Galaxy Note 4 is the best phablet in the market right now. It is everything that a phablet is supposed to be. The highlight of the Note 4 is how well Samsung has put together everything to create a superb computing device. It has a SuperAMOLED screen that is best we have seen in a phone, a very capable camera and good enough performance. But the magic happens with the bundled stylus and the special software features that Samsung has cooked up for the Note 4. The stylus and software features help a user do lot more because they offer more robust multitasking.

Motorola launched the updated Moto G in 2014. The update wasn't much to talk of. The new device has a bigger screen and a better camera but everything was more or less same. However, the original Moto G was good that even the minor was enough to keep the phone of the best in its league. For a price of Rs 12,999, the new Moto G offered consumers clean and fast Android experiences, something is that still remains rare in the market. No wonder, it again proved to be a hit with the consumers.

Samsung had high hopes from the Galaxy S5, hopes that it did not achieve in terms of sales numbers. But that is not because of any fault in the Galaxy S5. It is more because of the market realities because the Galaxy S5 is a superb phone. Packed with features and class-leading hardware, it is a top-of-the-line phone. The only blemish is in the Touchwiz users interface, which not everyone likes, and the plastic body. But these are minor issues considering the fantastic screen, a capable camera and very performance that the Galaxy S5 packs in.

This could have been the perfect Android phone. But the camera performance let it down. in everything else -- screen quality, performance, design and build quality -- the HTC One M8 leads the list in its class. The design part is especially good. It is the only Android phone that challenges (or rather say beats) Apple's iPhone 6. It uses an aluminium body with a curved back and that not only looks extraordinarily classy but also fits well in hands. Even the HTC Sense, which we did not like all that much in the past, has improved in its current avatar and goes well with the overall personality of the HTC One M8.

Launched in India just week ago, the RedMi Note is a phablet for masses. It is big and bulky but that doesn't take away from the fact that for less than Rs 10,000 it offers compelling smartphone experience on a 5.5-inch screen. The 13-megapixel primary camera too is really good and punches above its weight. The big screen means that for someone who doesn't have an access to a computer, and there are many such people in India, the RedMi Note is their cheapest bet at a good computing experience. And that itself, in our opinion makes, it one of the most significant devices of the year.
