Haryana man clears CAT after Zomato delivery job, set to join top Delhi B-school
Girish Sharma detailed his story in a LinkedIn post titled "From a Zomato Delivery rider to FMS Delhi," where he reflected on years of struggle, uncertainty and eventual academic success.

A Haryana-based man has inspired the internet with his journey from working as a Zomato delivery rider during a difficult phase of life to securing admission at the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), University of Delhi.
Girish Sharma detailed his story in a LinkedIn post titled “From a Zomato Delivery rider to FMS Delhi,” where he reflected on years of struggle, uncertainty and eventual academic success.
“Six years back, I had lost all my ambitions in the pursuit of daily survival,” he wrote, adding that just before the COVID-19 pandemic, he was working as a Zomato delivery rider while also teaching students and taking up other small jobs.
The pandemic period became a turning point in his life as it gave him space to reassess his goals. “COVID was a breather where I realised this is not something I want to continue in my life,” he said.
Sharma explained that he gradually rekindled his interest in business and decided to pursue an MBA from a top business school. However, he admitted that he initially lacked clarity about the process, including entrance exams and interviews.
After multiple attempts, he scored a competitive percentile in CAT 2023 and received interview calls from several institutes. However, he said most of them either waitlisted or rejected him, despite one initial admission offer which he was not satisfied with.
He decided to try again and later announced that he would be joining the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi this year, one of the capital’s top B-schools.
In his post, Sharma also expressed gratitude to mentors and educators who supported him throughout his preparation journey, including faculty members from coaching platforms and interview mentors who helped build his confidence.
“There was a whole force of people - mentors, friends, colleagues - who stood beside me throughout,” he wrote, adding that while he could not name everyone individually, he remained thankful for their support.
Concluding his post, he encouraged others facing setbacks in their own journeys to persist. “If you're somewhere in the middle of your own version of this, keep going,” he wrote.
The post drew widespread appreciation on LinkedIn, with users praising his perseverance and transformation.
One user described the journey as “a truly inspiring story that reflects the power of determination, hard work and self belief,” adding that circumstances do not define potential.
Another commented that the transition from delivery rider to FMS Delhi was not just a career shift but a “complete reset and rebuild of direction,” praising his decision to keep pushing despite setbacks.
One professional also highlighted the emotional aspect behind such journeys, noting that people often overlook the mental strain behind repeated failures and only see the final success.
