An Indian Railways passenger expecting a typical ‘please wait’ experience ended up getting a surprise instead: housekeeping staff at his seat in under two minutes.

The video shared on Instagram by passenger Manoj Malhotra has gone viral after documenting the remarkably quick response he received after testing a cleaning complaint number displayed inside his train coach while travelling from Delhi to Amritsar.

According to Malhotra, he noticed the official housekeeping helpline number inside the coach and decided to check whether the service actually worked or if it was “just another number pasted on the wall.”

In the now-viral clip, he can be seen calling the railway service line and providing details such as the train number, coach and seat location. What happened next genuinely surprised him.

“During my train journey from Delhi to Amritsar, I saw a cleaning complaint number on the train. So I thought I'd test it to see if anyone actually comes or if it's just a number,” he said in the video.

Malhotra noted that he placed the call at 12.51pm. By 12.53pm, housekeeping staff had already arrived at his seat. The video shows railway cleaning staff quickly responding to the complaint and beginning the cleaning work almost immediately after locating the coach.

According to Malhotra, the staff members also told him that he did not necessarily need to call the helpline at all. They explained that simply informing the coach attendant would have also triggered a prompt response.

What particularly resonated with viewers online was Malhotra’s reaction to the experience itself. “Honestly, it was heartwarming,” he wrote in the caption. “The train was on time, the service was quick, and the staff even cleaned up.”

While acknowledging that the incident may seem minor, he argued that such small improvements reflect broader changes in public infrastructure and service efficiency.

“Yes, it might seem like a small thing. But these small things show that India is changing,” he added while praising Indian Railways.
