IndiGo pilot meets Kattappa actor at 35,000 ft, asks iconic Baahubali question
An IndiGo pilot met Kattappa mid-flight and asked the iconic "Why did Kattappa kill Baahubali?" question, turning a routine journey into a fan moment.
An IndiGo pilot turned a routine flight into a once-in-a-lifetime fan moment after he found himself seated next to the man who played one of Indian cinema’s most iconic characters, and got to ask him the question that once gripped the entire country.
Shared by Hemanth Naidu, a pilot working with IndiGo, the video captured his unexpected interaction with veteran actor Sathyaraj, best known for playing Kattappa in the blockbuster Baahubali film series.
“Did you ever get a chance to ask Kattappa ne Bahubali ko kyu maara? Well, I did,” Naidu said in the clip, setting up the moment with a line every Indian moviegoer instantly recognises.
He explained that this wasn’t at a press event or film set, but “35,000 feet in the air,” where he happened to be seated next to Sathyaraj right after completing his flight duty.
In the video, Naidu shared pictures of the two together, showing a relaxed, candid interaction rather than a fan frenzy. He went on to describe their conversation, saying the actor spoke about his shooting schedules, discipline, and what stood out most to him—even at 71—was his energy and spirit.
“He even asked about my schedule as a pilot and reminded me, health is the real one. No stardom, just pure humility,” Naidu added, highlighting how grounded the veteran actor came across during their exchange.

Why this question still lives on
The question “Why did Kattappa kill Baahubali?” became a cultural phenomenon after the release of Baahubali: The Beginning in 2015. The film ended on a cliffhanger where Kattappa, a fiercely loyal warrior, was shown killing the protagonist Baahubali, leaving audiences shocked and desperate for answers.
The mystery sparked endless debates, memes, and theories across the country, turning the question into one of the most talked-about pop culture moments in India. It was finally answered in the sequel, Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017), but the phrase itself continued to hold nostalgic value.
For several online, Naidu’s experience felt like living out a collective fan fantasy, not just meeting Sathyaraj, but casually getting to revisit a question that once united millions in curiosity.
