A student living in Mumbai has offered a glimpse into what surviving in the city on a monthly budget of Rs 25,000 looks like.

In a video posted on Instagram, Ayushi broke down everything from rent and travel expenses to food and hobbies.

Ayushi, who lives in Andheri East in a girls’ PG accommodation, said that a large chunk of her budget goes towards accommodation. “We pay around Rs 14,000 on rent and electricity in a shared setup,” she said in the video. Her share, however, is something that she didn’t specify.

She spends Rs 2,000 commuting via Mumbai’s local trains and metro network, which she described as a major money-saver.

Her food expenses amount to nearly Rs 6,000 a month, as she said that cooking meals at home not only helps save money but is healthier too.

“For the other stuff like running and pursuing my hobbies, I pay around Rs 5,000. So, yes, you can still save if you want,” she said in the video as she recorded snippets of her life in Mumbai.

In the comments section of the post, several users said that Ayushi’s video helped clear doubts about whether surviving in Mumbai on such a budget was realistically possible.

Some also pointed out that living in Mumbai becomes manageable if the focus is on sustaining oneself rather than aggressively saving money.

For many students and young professionals navigating life in Mumbai, Ayushi’s video reflected a familiar reality - balancing high living costs with shared spaces, public transport and careful budgeting to make life in the city work.
