Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov denies war crimes in Ukraine, says Russia not targeting civilians

In an exclusive interview with India Today's Foreign Affairs Editor Geeta Mohan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov talks about the reasons for Russia's invasion of Ukraine, allegations of war crimes by Russian troops and more.

On the reasons for going to war, Sergey Lavrov said, "The real reason [for the war] is the complacency of most countries after World War II. They violated their promises to Russian leadership and started moving Nato eastward after the Soviet Union disappeared. They said it's a defensive alliance and not a threat to Russian security."

Denying allegations of war crimes committed by the Russian army, Lavrov said, "Our army has only been targeting military infrastructure and not civilians. The Ukrainian army has been using civilians as human shields."
