Zaporizhzhia power plant fire: Nuclear forensic scientist Amol Deshmukh decodes radiation leak, its consequences

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine, the largest of its kind in Europe, was on fire early on Friday. How scary and what kind of a threat is this? "As you know that it is one of the biggest nuclear power plants of Europe, that not only produces 25 per cent of energy but it also supplies many critical infrastructures of Ukraine", said Nuclear forensic scientist Amol Deshmukh.

"We all know the biggest nuclear disaster that has happened in the history was in Ukraine. These nuclear reactors, which are made in recent years, are more advanced nuclear reactors. Cooling down these reactors are challenging. In case if something happens with the cooling part, then there will be a leakage," he said.
