Public anger is mounting in Islamabad as sweeping road closures and heightened security measures due to possible Iran-US talks continue to disrupt daily life, with many residents questioning why they are bearing the cost of geopolitical tensions far beyond their borders.

The speculation around high-profile visits, prompting authorities to tighten security across the Pakistani capital. Several key routes have been closed, leading to widespread traffic chaos, business disruptions, and growing frustration among locals.

Markets and small businesses have been hit particularly hard, with many reporting a sharp drop in income. For daily wage earners, the impact has been immediate and severe. With inflation already straining household budgets, the sudden halt in economic activity has deepened concerns about survival.

Residents say the lack of clear communication from authorities has only added to confusion. Rumours of visits by foreign leaders and ongoing diplomatic engagements have fuelled uncertainty, leaving people unsure about how long the restrictions will last.

A 33-year-old local resident, Fida Ulla, expressed his anger, saying the conflict is between countries like the United States, Iran, and Israel, but ordinary Pakistanis are paying the price. He lamented that businesses are shut, unemployment is rising, and people are struggling amid poverty and inflation. He urged authorities to show compassion towards the public regardless of whether talks materialise.

Another resident, Muhammad Sabir, echoed similar concerns. Standing beside his motorbike, he pointed out that people are already burdened by rising prices, and the ongoing restrictions have only worsened their situation. He criticised the constant speculation over foreign visits, saying such uncertainty leaves the public in limbo, with no work and no income. He called for swift diplomatic resolution so that normalcy can return.

The situation has effectively created what many describe as an “undeclared lockdown,” with mobility severely restricted and livelihoods affected across the city.
