Assembly Election Highlights: West Bengal’s first-phase elections witnessed multiple incidents of tension, allegations and disruptions across districts. In Murshidabad, clashes broke out between TMC workers and AUJP founder Humayun Kabir near a site earlier hit by crude bomb violence, while residents expressed fear after an injured woman triggered security concerns. Separate clashes between TMC and BJP workers were reported in Siliguri, prompting CAPF intervention. In Kumarganj, BJP candidate Subhendu Sarkar alleged removal of polling agents from several booths and claimed he was attacked during inspection, blaming TMC workers. In Keshpur, a 55-year-old woman died after voting, with family citing missing voter list entries and shock after leaving the booth. Meanwhile, voting went on smoothly and peacefully in Tamil Nadu as several celebrities and top political leaders cast their ballot. Tamil Nadu is voting in a single phase to elect representatives for all its 234 seats.
