Suvendu Adhikari snaps at TMC workers after 'Jai Bangla' slogans disrupt rally
The situation turned heated as TMC workers raised slogans and waved party flags while Suvendu Adhikari's convoy passed by on Wednesday evening. Reacting to the provocation, he shouted "chor, chor" in response and even attempted to confront the crowd, but was restrained by his security personnel from stepping down from his campaign vehicle.

Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, lost his cool after Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers disrupted a roadshow in the Bali Assembly constituency of Howrah district, chanting “Jai Bangla” during his rally in support of BJP candidate Sanjay Singh.

"I was campaigning peacefully with approximately 5,000 supporters. However, some Trinamool supporters intentionally raised provocative slogans to disturb the atmosphere. I demand the immediate removal of the Bali Police Station Officer-in-Charge," Adhikari, who is contesting from both the Nandigram and Bhabanipur constituencies, said.
Adhikari is challenging TMC heavyweights in both constituencies. In Nandigram, he is defending his seat against TMC's Pabitra Kar, while in Bhabanipur, he is up against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The Bhabanipur constituency is witnessing a repeat clash between sitting MLA and Trinamool Congress candidate Mamata Banerjee and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari.
In 2021, Suvendu Adhikari defeated Mamata Banerjee by a margin of 1,956 votes, securing 1,10,764 votes against the TMC leader's 1,08,808. Although his victory margin in 2021 was smaller against Mamata Banerjee, he had previously won by a large margin of 81,230 votes against CPI candidate Abdul Kabir Sekh in 2016, receiving 134,623 votes compared to Sekh's 53,393.
The upcoming 2026 elections will once again see Suvendu Adhikari taking on Mamata Banerjee in the Bhabanipur seat, which she has held since 2011.
In the last assembly election held in eight phases in 2021, the Trinamool Congress achieved a landslide victory with 213 seats amid a fierce contest with the BJP, which increased its tally to 77 seats. Congress and the Left Front failed to win any seats in the last state elections.
Polling in West Bengal is scheduled for April 23 and 29, with the counting of votes set for May 4.
