Tata Motors has expanded the powertrain portfolio of the Altroz with the launch of the new Altroz iCNG AMT. Priced from Rs 8.69 lakh (ex-showroom), the model becomes the first and only premium hatchback in India to offer a factory-fitted CNG powertrain paired with an automatic transmission.

  • Pure – Rs 8.69 lakh
  • Pure S – Rs 8.99 lakh
  • Creative – Rs 9.56 lakh
  • Creative S – Rs 9.81 lakh
  • Accomplished S – Rs 10.76 lakh

With the introduction of the AMT option, Tata Motors aims to combine the efficiency benefits of CNG with the convenience of two-pedal driving, particularly for urban commuters. The launch further strengthens the Altroz’s multi-powertrain strategy, which already includes petrol, diesel and CNG options.

The Altroz iCNG AMT is powered by Tata’s 1.2-litre Revotron iCNG engine, producing 73.5bhp and 103Nm of torque in CNG mode. The engine is now paired with an automated manual transmission (AMT) for the first time. Tata says the setup is designed to offer smoother everyday drivability while reducing driver fatigue in stop-go traffic conditions.

A key highlight of the Altroz iCNG range continues to be Tata’s twin-cylinder technology, where two smaller CNG cylinders are placed beneath the luggage compartment floor. This layout helps retain a usable 210-litre boot space, addressing one of the biggest compromises traditionally associated with CNG vehicles. For comparison, the petrol and diesel variants offer 345 litres of luggage capacity.

The hatchback also features Tata’s single advanced ECU setup, enabling seamless switching between petrol and CNG modes. It additionally offers direct start in CNG mode, a feature aimed at improving convenience during daily usage.

In terms of design, the Altroz iCNG AMT carries forward the styling updates seen on the latest Altroz range. Exterior highlights include flush-fitting door handles, connected LED tail lamps and LED headlamps with DRLs. Inside, the cabin gets twin 26.03 cm digital displays for infotainment and instrumentation, a soft-touch dashboard, ambient lighting and lounge-style rear seats.

On the safety front, the Altroz continues to be based on Tata’s ALFA architecture and retains its 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating across petrol, diesel and CNG variants. Standard safety equipment includes six airbags, ESP, ISOFIX child seat mounts and reverse parking sensors. Higher variants also get a 360-degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, auto headlamps and LED fog lamps.
