Drivers of Change Season 3, Part 2: The 10,000km voyage continues

The course towards Gangtok was set to be a long one. Almost 1,500km of changing road conditions, states and people. To alleviate the strain, a quick overnight halt at Lucknow recharged our batteries. This 1,000km stretch saw our convoy witness long open stretches of highways, narrow and crowded city streets, and finally the curvy mountain roads of Sikkim.

Roads narrowed, surfaces became unpredictable, and elevation shifted constantly. The drive demanded complete focus. This is where engineering is tested, not in ideal conditions, but in challenging ones. The XUV 7X0 holds its composure, the suspension adapting, the steering remaining precise. There is a consistency to the way it responds, a predictability that builds trust with every kilometre. It never feels out of its depth, never feels overwhelmed, even when the terrain suggests otherwise. Inside, the experience evolves once more. The co-driver seat moves forward with boss mode, creating space in the rear that becomes essential over long stretches. After reluctantly bidding goodbye to the undeniable beauty of Sikkim’s capital, the time came to take the mountain road back down to the plains we were used to so far in our voyage.

The descent towards Visakhapatnam introduced a new challenge. Heat builds, humidity rises, and fatigue begins to creep in. The cabin, however, remains controlled. Dual zone climate control and ventilated seats ensure consistency, maintaining comfort regardless of external conditions. It is in these conditions that endurance is tested, and it is here that the XUV 7X0 quietly reinforces its long-distance capability. Another 1,500km stretch lies ahead of us, and that’ll take our cavalcade to the east coast of our country. Post a quick overnight halt at Kolkata, we quickly made it across the state of Odisha via its two main cities - Bhubaneshwar and Cuttack. As the dusk sky fell upon us, the ‘City of Destiny’ finally arrived.

Visakhapatnam feels like a city in motion. Infrastructure expanding, systems evolving. The next day, the morning light glistened on the Bay of Bengal as we aimed for our next destination further down south. The roads via Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai are some of the best in our country. From well-marked junctions to road-manners abiding citizens, it is a hotpot of the country’s infrastructural capability at its very best. Bengaluru and Hyderabad accelerate everything again. Ideas move faster, and execution follows quickly.

But what stands out is clarity. The time to meet with yet more achievers from this new season, one that concentrates on the power of young creators across the country, arrived with haste. The achievers here speak about sustainability, about building beyond valuation, about creating impact that lasts. It is ambition refined by experience, shaped by both success and failure. Whether it was creating a bionic arm for a citizen in need, or providing solutions via a vast AI network, both these cities have come to define the very definition of technology and all that it is capable of or for the people. There’s also the wonderment and excitement at the electrifying future of two-wheelers in our country, one that is taking the world by storm. Through all of this, the XUV 7X0 remains consistent. The dashboard stretches across your field of vision, anchored by the coast-to-coast 31.2cm triple screens. At first glance, it feels expansive, almost overwhelming. Before the journey towards our final smart city, and eventually back to the maximum city, the XUV 7X0 started its trip further down south towards Chennai. There, we meet yet another extraordinary citizen of this country, one making a beeline for the stars with drones catering to several different applications. Through the hustle and bustle of the capital city of Tamil Nadu, the 7X0 continues to flex its muscles, both from a powertrain and features perspective. And when traffic builds again, as it inevitably does, you begin to appreciate just how valuable it is to keep your hands exactly where they are. Adjusting the temperature, switching music, updating routes, everything happens without distraction. In Indian driving conditions, where attention is constantly divided, this becomes more than convenience. It becomes a necessity.

Our caravan had seen all this country has to offer in terms of culture, road network, people and progress. This 1,200km stretch meant a final overnight halt in the achingly gorgeous state of Goa, and then there was only one place left to arrive. And somewhere along this journey, something shifted within us. We stopped noticing individual features. We started noticing how everything works together. That is the real strength of the XUV 7X0. It does not overwhelm with technology. It integrates it. Every feature supports the journey, every system enhances the experience. Once again, Mumbai served as the final destination to meet yet more achievers, making ripples in the financial, philanthropic, and architectural worlds. After thousands of kilometres, five smart cities and fifteen achievers, one truth becomes abundantly clear. India is not waiting to change. It already is. And as long as there are those willing to drive that change, the journey will never truly end.
