Upset over wife's masculinity taunts, Ahmedabad man throws acid at her
The accused, Jatin Patel, was deeply upset as his wife would taunt him about his masculinity. The couple was living separately for the past six months as they frequently had fights.
A man in Ahmedabad attacked his wife with acid as he had become fed up with her constant taunts about his masculinity. They used to have frequent fights, which had ultimately led to them leaving separately for the past six months. However, the taunts angered the man, identified as Jatin Patel, so much that he conspired the plan as an act of revenge.
The incident happened in Naroda region of Ahmedabad late on Friday night. The woman, who works at a car showroom, was returning to her mother's home from work. She has been residing there for the past six months due to ongoing disputes with her husband.
Police said that as soon as she reached a residential society, an unidentified bike-borne man, wearing a helmet, approached her and threw acid at her before fleeing the scene. She, however, covered her face with her dupatta, which prevented more severe injuries. The woman sustained burns on her lips and eyes.
Local residents gathered at the spot soon after the attack, but the assailant managed to escape amid the commotion. The injured woman was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, police launched an investigation and began searching for the unidentified attacker. During the probe, investigators examined CCTV footage from the area, which helped them trace the suspect riding a motorcycle and wearing a helmet. After further analysis of the footage and recording the woman's statement, it was revealed that the attacker was the woman's husband. Police subsequently took him into custody and began questioning him.
During interrogation, he told police that the couple, who had a love marriage, frequently had fights. She allegedly taunted Jatin Patel about his masculinity, which deeply upset him.
The accused works as a driver for a cargo service company. After carrying out the attack and fleeing, he later visited the hospital to check on his wife, attempting to appear concerned. However, the CCTV evidence ultimately led investigators to identify and arrest him.
Police have taken Jatin Patel into custody and are continuing further interrogation as part of the ongoing investigation.
