NEET UG 2026 re-exam: Heatwave, transport, basic facilities in government's priority
Dharmendra Pradhan has asked states and Union Territories to ensure heatwave safeguards for the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination on 21 June. The move puts student welfare, smooth logistics and transparent conduct at the centre of preparations.

As lakhs of medical aspirants prepare to appear for the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination on June 21, the Centre has asked states and Union Territories to make arrangements to protect students from the ongoing heatwave conditions.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has written to all Chief Ministers, Lieutenant Governors and Administrators seeking cooperation for the smooth, fair and transparent conduct of the examination. In his communication, the minister urged authorities to ensure basic facilities at exam centres, citing concerns over high temperatures in several parts of the country.
The minister requested state governments to direct district administrations, schools, colleges, universities and other institutions hosting the examination to provide essential amenities for candidates.
These facilities include safe drinking water, adequate seating arrangements, functioning fans or coolers, clean washrooms, shaded waiting areas, uninterrupted electricity supply and portable toilets wherever needed.
“In view of the prevailing heatwave conditions, I request you to kindly issue appropriate instructions to ensure the availability of essential basic amenities for the convenience of candidates,” said Pradhan in the letter.
The communication comes as several regions continue to experience above-normal temperatures, raising concerns over student safety during long examination hours and travel to centres.
Apart from arrangements inside examination centres, Pradhan also asked states to ensure adequate transportation facilities for candidates on the day of the examination.
The move aims to reduce inconvenience for students travelling to and from exam venues amid extreme weather conditions.
The Union minister stressed that the interests and well-being of students remain a priority and called for coordinated efforts between state authorities and institutions involved in conducting the examination.
Pradhan expressed confidence that states and Union Territories would extend full support to ensure the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination is conducted smoothly.
The NEET (UG) exam is one of India’s largest entrance tests for undergraduate medical admissions, with participation running into lakhs of candidates annually.
The June 21 re-examination will be held under heightened administrative attention following directions to maintain transparency, fairness and student welfare during the process.
