Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra stoked a fresh controversy on Thursday after she publicly disclosed the alleged location and movements of two senior BJP leaders in Kolkata and coupled it with a warning that even the party president won't be able to "save them here". The development came on a day Bengal voted in the first phase of elections, which was marred by sporadic incidents of violence.

In a hostile post on X, Moitra released a picture that appeared more like a "hit list", featuring BJP leaders Saurabh Singh and Professor Swadesh Singh. Newly inducted BJP leader and tennis legend Leander Paes, who was born in Kolkata, is also seen in the image. The two leaders were circled in red, with "S+S" prominently marked on the image. The 'S+S' is likely the names of the two leaders.

The Krishnanagar MP suggested that Saurabh Singh, a former BJP MLA from Chhattisgarh, was engaged in "distribution" activities in Bengal to influence the voters. She also revealed his present location and where he was heading next.

"Beware, Saurabh Singh, after my tweet, you are checking out of the Elgin Hotel and going to the Novotel with your team to continue distribution. This is Bengal - Nitin Nabin won't be able to save you here," Moitra tweeted. Nabin is the BJP national president.

This was the second such warning by Moitra. In a previous post, she alleged that the leaders were sent by the BJP leadership to distribute cash and engage in extortion activities.

"What exactly are Swadesh Singh, professor Satyavati College, and Saurabh Singh doing in Bengal? Calling up people for vasooli and distributing cash in the name of BJP president Nitin Nabin," Moitra said.

She followed it up with a stark warning, "We are watching - you will not escape." The BJP is yet to respond to Moitra's threats and her attempt to publicly expose the whereabouts of its leaders.

VIOLENCE IN POCKETS, BJP CANDIDATE ASSAULTED

The development comes as tensions soared on Thursday, with murshidabad-clash-voter-intimidation-ec-report-humayun-kabir-2900409-2026-04-23" target="_blank">incidents of violence and assaults on candidates in pockets of Bengal.

BJP candidate Suvendu Sarkar was thrashed while he was on his way to a polling booth in Dakshin Dinajpur's Kumarganj. Visuals showed Sarkar being pushed and manhandled as a single police officer tries to rescue him.

Sarkar alleged that he was beaten up in the presence of the police, and his vehicle was vandalised. The ruling Trinamool, which is eyeing a fourth term in Bengal, countered by claiming that Sarkar tried to create unrest near a booth.

HUMAYUN KABIR'S CAR ATTACKED

Around 200 km away, in the sensitive Murshidabad district, clashes broke out between the TMC and Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) of ex-TMC MLA Humayun Kabir. Kabir, who fell out with the TMC over his plan to construct a Babri Masjid-like mosque, contested from Bharatpur, one of the 22 Assembly segments in Murshidabad.

Visuals showed a mob hurling stones and beating Kabir's supporters with bamboo poles in Naoda. For some time, Kabir was trapped in his vehicle as people surrounded him and threw stones.

The situation was eventually brought under control after central forces resorted to a baton charge to disperse the mob.

Speaking to the media, Kabir accused the TMC of intimidation. The party has rejected the charges and condemned the violence.

In Birbhum's Labhpur, the BJP alleged that its polling agent sustained head injuries following an assault. Unrest was also reported from Purba Medinipur's Moyna, Cooch Behar's Mathabhanga, Murshidabad's Domkal and Malda's Chanchal.
