TVK chief Vijay's poll affidavits under scanner over discrepancies in pending cases
Discrepancies emerge in Vijay's poll affidavits, with conflicting disclosures on pending cases between Perambur and Tiruchy East filings, and omission of a 2025 Peravallur police case raising compliance concerns.

Actor-turned-politician and TVK chief Vijay has come under scrutiny after discrepancies surfaced in his election affidavits regarding pending criminal cases, raising questions over disclosure norms ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly polls.
According to documents reviewed by India Today TV, Vijay's affidavit filed from Perambur stated that there are no pending cases against him. However, his affidavit from Tiruchirappalli (East) mentioned two cases as pending.
Adding to the inconsistency, a case registered against him at Peravallur police station in 2025 has not been disclosed in the Perambur filing.
The mismatch has triggered concerns over the accuracy and completeness of his declarations. Legal experts indicated that the only corrective course available in such a situation is the submission of a revised affidavit clarifying the discrepancies.
The development came days after Vijay announced he would contest from both Perambur and Tiruchirappalli (East) constituencies in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. He filed his nomination from Perambur on March 30.
In his affidavit, Vijay declared total assets worth Rs 603.20 crore. This included bank deposits exceeding Rs 213 crore spread across multiple accounts. His declared assets also list a fleet of luxury vehicles, including a BMW 530, a Toyota Lexus, a Toyota Vellfire, and a BMW i7, according to news agency PTI.
His wife, Sangeetha, declared separate assets totalling Rs 15.76 crore. This included movable assets valued at Rs 15.51 crore and immovable property worth Rs 25 lakh.
The disclosures came amid personal developments, with Sangeetha having filed for divorce late last month, alleging Vijay's involvement in an extramarital relationship with a female co-star.
The Tamil Nadu Assembly polls are set to take place in a single phase on April 23, while the counting of votes will be carried out on May 4.
