TTV Dhinakaran files police complaint against Vijay's TVK over 'forged' MLA letter

The latest move followed TVK releasing a video of lone AMMK MLA S Kamaraj allegedly writing a support letter backing the Vijay-led party, directly countering Dhinakaran's earlier claim that a forged letter had been circulated.

The battle over government formation in Tamil Nadu intensified further after the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) filed a police complaint against the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), accusing the Vijay-led party of using a forged support letter to falsely project AMMK backing in government formation in Tamil Nadu.

The complaint comes amid an escalating political confrontation between the two parties over the support of AMMK’s lone MLA, S Kamaraj.

The latest development comes after TTV Dhinakaran alleged that TVK had shared a "forged copy" of MLA Kamaraj’s letter with the Governor and threatened to lodge a police complaint.

Following the allegations, TVK released a video of Kamaraj writing a support letter backing the Vijay-led party, directly countering AMMK chief Dhinakaran’s earlier claim that a forged letter had been circulated in TVK’s favour.

In the video, released through ANI and amplified by TVK leaders, Kamaraj is purportedly seen writing the letter and stating that he was extending support to TVK with the approval of AMMK General Secretary Dhinakaran.

TVK accused Dhinakaran of spreading "false news and misinformation" after he later denied that any such support had been officially extended to Vijay’s party.

"These are the video visuals of AMMK MLA Kamaraj voluntarily and happily writing a letter expressing his support for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam," the party said in its statement accompanying the video.

"He had stated that he was extending support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam with the approval of AMMK General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran. However, the information now being spread that he did not write the letter is completely false and contrary to the truth," the statement added.

TVK further alleged that Dhinakaran was concealing facts while continuing to spread misinformation. The party also asserted that it had "no need to bargain or negotiate with anyone" in its attempt to form the government.

DHINAKARAN BACKED AIADMK

The latest escalation came hours after Dhinakaran, in a dramatic turn of events, met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Lok Bhavan along with Kamaraj, formally backing AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami’s claim to form the government.

The move marked a sharp reversal from the narrative earlier in the day, when Dhinakaran had alleged that his lone MLA was "missing" and could have been targeted in political poaching amid the fierce contest for numbers in the fractured Assembly.

By personally presenting Kamaraj before the Governor, Dhinakaran sought to reinforce AMMK’s support for AIADMK and dismiss reports suggesting his party had shifted towards TVK.

Speaking after the meeting, Dhinakaran accused TVK of attempting to fabricate political support using a "forged xerox copy" of a letter purportedly backing Vijay.

"This is forgery we will file a criminal complaint," Dhinakaran said, insisting that AMMK’s official support remained firmly with AIADMK.

He reiterated that AMMK remain aligned with the NDA and AIADMK, declaring Palaniswami as the alliance's Chief Ministerial choice.

"Our CM candidate is Palaniswami," he said, while adding that efforts were underway to reach out to other parties and strengthen AIADMK’s claim to power.

POLITICAL MESSAGING BATTLE

The controversy around Kamaraj has now transformed from a "missing MLA" episode into a high-stakes political messaging war, with both camps accusing each other of manipulation as the Governor weighs competing claims to form the government.

The numbers game remains delicately poised.

Vijay had earlier met the Governor and reportedly submitted signatures of 116 MLAs, leaving TVK just two short of the majority mark. Sources indicated that Vijay was initially expected to be sworn-in as Chief Minister on Saturday before uncertainty emerged over "missing" letters of support.

The situation became more complicated after the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) reportedly distanced itself from claims of backing TVK, while the crucial support letter from the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) was delayed.

Sources also indicated that VCK was engaged in intense negotiations and had sought the Deputy Chief Minister’s post, further complicating the alliance arithmetic.

With allegations of forgery, counter-claims over support letters and shifting alliance equations dominating Tamil Nadu politics, attention is now firmly on Raj Bhavan, where Governor Arlekar is expected to assess the rival claims before deciding who will be invited to form the next government.
