Pagglait 2 confirmed: Sanya Malhotra returns, shoot to begin in August

A familiar story is getting a fresh chapter. Netflix's 2021 film Pagglait is set to return with a sequel, with Sanya Malhotra reprising her role in Pagglait 2.

The follow-up to the dark dramedy is officially in development, with Umesh Bist also returning to direct. While plot details remain under wraps, it is not yet clear whether the sequel will continue the original storyline or explore a new narrative within the same thematic space.

According to Variety India, Pagglait 2 has been greenlit as part of Netflix India’s expanding slate of sequel projects. The film is expected to retain the blend of humour and emotional depth that defined the first instalment.

Production is likely to begin between August and September 2026.

The platform is also developing Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga 2, starring Yami Gautam and Sunny Kaushal, as it continues to build on successful titles with follow-up stories.

Meanwhile, another film backed by the same production banner, Kill, is also set to get a sequel. However, its original director, Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, will not return for the second part.

The production house behind Pagglait has collaborated with Netflix India on several projects over the years, spanning documentaries and feature films. Its credits include the Oscar-winning documentary The Elephant Whisperers, as well as titles like The Lunchbox, Kathal and Peddlers.

It also has multiple projects in the pipeline, including a film directed by Karthik Subbaraj and the Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan starrer spy comedy Udta Teer, scheduled to release in theatres on September 11, 2026.
