From waste to wealth: How women in a village near Jamshedpur are recycling plastic

In our Good News segment, watch this inspiring story from Gobarghusi village, located 60 kilometres from Jamshedpur, where a group of women is successfully 'finding value in waste'. These women collect discarded plastics and old clothes from approximately ten nearby villages to create a variety of useful items. Their handmade products, which include flower vases, baskets, plates, and caps made from plastic, as well as doormats made from old clothes, have reached major markets in Delhi and Mumbai. The items are priced between Rs 50 and Rs 600, providing the women with a monthly income of Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000. This recycling movement, which began a year ago, aims to mitigate the environmental damage observed over the last 30 years while providing a sustainable livelihood. The programme also previews a special round table discussion featuring Sunil Gavaskar ahead of the T20 World Cup.
