An Ahmedabad social media influencer’s decision to reject a friendship proposal allegedly triggered a chilling months-long cyber harassment campaign in which a Delhi man created and circulated more than 100 AI-generated nude photos and videos of the woman and her mother, police said on Thursday.

The accused, identified as 27-year-old Sumit Nemchand Sharma from North East Delhi, was arrested by the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch after investigators tracked him through technical surveillance and human intelligence inputs.

Police said Sharma allegedly created multiple fake Instagram accounts and YouTube channels using the influencer’s identity before flooding social media platforms with morphed explicit content generated through AI tools freely available online.

According to investigators, the harassment continued between December 2025 and April 2026.

Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch ACP Hardik Mankadiya said the woman approached police after the fake profiles and explicit content began spreading online.

“We received a complaint from a social media influencer that an unknown person had created fake Instagram accounts in her name and uploaded over 100 AI-generated nude photos and videos of her and her mother on social media platforms and YouTube channels,” he said.

Police said the posts caused deep mental trauma and public humiliation for both the woman and her mother.

FROM RELIGIOUS CHATS TO ONLINE STALKING

Investigators said Sharma, who is allegedly associated with ISKCON’s Hare Krishna sect and uploads religious discourse videos online, first contacted the influencer through Instagram.

According to police, the conversations initially revolved around religion and spiritual discussions.

But matters took a darker turn after Sharma allegedly asked the influencer for friendship and she refused.

Police said the accused then began obsessively tracking the woman online and created several fake social media identities using her photographs.

“He used the influencer’s photographs as profile pictures for fake accounts and also opened YouTube channels using her identity,” ACP Mankadiya said.

AI TOOLS USED TO CREATE EXPLICIT CONTENT

During the investigation, police found that Sharma allegedly downloaded photographs of the influencer and her mother from Instagram before using AI-powered “remove clothes” tools to generate fake nude images and videos.

Police said the accused searched online for AI tools capable of digitally altering photographs and uploaded the images on various websites to create morphed explicit content.

“He searched for AI Remove Clothes tools on Google and used different websites to create morphed nude images and videos,” the officer said.

The AI-generated content was then allegedly uploaded across fake Instagram accounts, YouTube channels and other social media platforms along with obscene posts.

MORE THAN 10 FAKE SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS

Police said forensic examination of the accused’s mobile phone revealed that Sharma had allegedly created around 10 fake accounts across X, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube in the influencer’s name.

Investigators believe the accounts were operated over several months to repeatedly upload explicit AI-generated content targeting both the woman and her mother.

Officials said the accused himself regularly uploaded religious videos on social media, even as he allegedly ran the fake accounts in parallel.

A case has been registered against Sharma under Sections 78(2) and 356(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 66(C) and 67 of the Information Technology Act.

Further investigation is underway.
