Bihar woman, upset over family restrictions, fakes her kidnapping to frame parents
A Rohtas woman allegedly staged her own kidnapping and sent a WhatsApp claim to her family. Police traced her to Dehri-on-Sone railway station, where she said family restrictions pushed her to do it.

A woman in Bihar’s Rohtas district allegedly faked her own kidnapping and tried to frame her family members, police said. Police later recovered her from Dehri-on-Sone railway station after an investigation.
The incident came to light in the Dalmianagar police station area of Dehri. According to police, the woman, the daughter of Santosh Mahto of Maneri Bigha, left home on April 28, 2026, to go to college but suddenly went missing. When her family failed to trace her despite extensive searches, they informed the police.
On April 29, the family received a WhatsApp message from the womans' mobile phone claiming that she had been kidnapped and was being kept at a location in Sasaram. Following the message, police formed a special team and launched an investigation. Initially, the police did not get any clue about her whereabouts.
After sustained efforts, police traced her location to Dehri-on-Sone railway station and recovered her from there under suspicious circumstances. During the week-long search operation, she allegedly kept both her family and the police misled.
Dehri ASP Atulesh Jha said that during questioning, the woman told police that her family members harassed her and did not allow her social freedom. She claimed that her family forced her to live under several social restrictions, which made her feel mentally distressed. According to the ASP, the girl said she hatched the kidnapping conspiracy to gain freedom from those restrictions.
Police counselled the woman and later handed her over to her family members.
