BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi who was part of the Parliamentary Ethics Committee which recommended Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra's expulsion as a Lok Sabha MP, said there was no need to summon businessman Darshan Hiranandani as he gave a "sworn affidavit". Mahua Moitra was expelled as a Lok Sabha MP on Friday after BJP MP Nishikant Dubey alleged that she received cash and gifts from Darshan Hiranandani to ask questions in Parliament.
Sarangi said the businessman's affidavit was sworn in front of the Consulate General of Dubai and that is why there was no need to summon him. Opposition leaders had slammed the ethics panel, saying Hiranandani was not asked to depose and there was no cross-examination of his statement.
Hiranandani had submitted a letter before the Ethics Committee of Parliament, claiming that Moitra had shared her Parliamentary login ID and password so that he could "post questions on her behalf".
