Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his first visit to Tamil Nadu in May 2026, launched a scathing attack on the ruling DMK, stating that the 'countdown for the DMK government's exit has begun'. Addressing a massive gathering, the Prime Minister asserted that the people of Tamil Nadu are ready for change and desire an NDA 'double-engine' government to free the state from corruption, mafia, and dynastic politics. He highlighted that the central government has provided approximately ₹3 lakh crore to Tamil Nadu over the last 11 years, triple the amount given during the UPA era. Mr Modi further accused the DMK of being an 'enemy of Tamil culture' and noted that while the previous administration sought to ban Jallikattu, the NDA government ensured its legal protection. He emphasized the importance of a state government that works in harmony with the Centre to transform Tamil Nadu into a developed, 'Viksit' state, focusing on youth empowerment, infrastructure, and the welfare of farmers and fishermen.
