Illegal contract to hoarding in 2021 under Uddhav Thackeray: BJP

Days after a hoarding, which was erected illegally, collapsed due to gusty winds in Mumbai's Ghatkopar, the BJP on Tuesday alleged that the contract was illegally given when Uddhav Thackeray was chief minister of Maharashtra in 2021.

Two more bodies were recovered from under the debris of the giant hoarding which collapsed in Mumbai's Ghatkopar on Monday evening when the city was hit by dust storms and unseasonal rains. The death toll in the incident has now reached 16, as rescue teams had earlier retrieved 14 bodies from the hoarding crash site.

Seventy-five people were injured in the incident, while the search and rescue operation continued on Wednesday, news agency PTI quoted a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) official as saying.
