American far-right activist and vocal supporter of Donald Trump, Laura Loomer, on Saturday issued an apology at the India Today Conclave in New Delhi over some of her past anti-India social media remarks that had sparked intense criticism for being racist and offensive.
Addressing the issue during the Conclave, she acknowledged that some of her remarks were inappropriate and expressed regret over certain tweets. “I should not have said some of the things I wrote in the other tweets,” she said, though she maintained that she stood by her opposition to the H-1B visa programme, arguing that it disadvantages American workers.
Loomer insisted that she does not harbour hostility towards India or Hindus and said she has often spoken in support of Hindus globally against what she called radical Islamist persecution.
The controversy resurfaced after Loomer announced on X that she would be attending the Conclave in India, prompting users to circulate her earlier posts and triggering a wave of backlash online.
