Patna police kills accused in businessman murder case, BJP defends law and order

Patna police have conducted an encounter resulting in the death of an accused linked to the murder of a businessman. The main shooter, identified as Umesh Yadav, was arrested earlier. The police carried out raids based on information obtained from Yadav, leading to a shootout. BJP spokesperson Ajay Alok defended the state's law and order situation, criticising the opposition's claims of 'jungle raj'. He highlighted the police's swift action in solving the case within three days. Alok also mentioned concerns about planned communal tensions during Muharram, with incidents reported in about 40 places. The BJP spokesperson emphasised the state's past success in tackling organised crime and warned criminals to 'improve or vanish'.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hugged and honoured 98-year-old Makhanlal Sarkar, one of the earliest and senior most members of the BJP. The scene unfolded on the stage ahead of Suvendu Adhikari's swearing-in as West Bengal's Chief Minister in Kolkata. PM Modi also touched Sarkar's feet and presented a shawl to him as a mark of respect. In 1952, Sarkar was arrested in Kashmir while he was accompanying Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee as the latter was marching to hoist the tricolour there. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya described the elderly party leader as "one of the earliest grassroots figures associated with the nationalist movement in post-Independence India."
