MeitY opens paid summer internship 2026 for non-technical students, apply by June 7
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has opened applications for NeGD's Non-Technical Summer Internship Programme 2026. The internship has offered students a chance to work on Digital India projects, policy research, AI frameworks, and governance systems under expert mentorship.

India’s digital transformation mission is opening new opportunities for students interested in governance, technology management, policy, and communication.
The National e-Governance Division (NeGD), functioning under the Digital India Corporation (DIC) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has invited applications for its Non-Technical Summer Internship Programme 2026.
The programme has been designed to give students practical exposure to India’s rapidly evolving digital governance ecosystem. Through this internship, selected candidates will contribute to projects linked to Digital India initiatives, public service delivery systems, data privacy, and emerging technologies.
Applications are currently open and interested students can apply by Sunday, June 7, 2026.
A CHANCE TO WORK ON INDIA’S DIGITAL FUTURE
This year, NeGD is offering 10 internship positions across different operational and policy areas. Students selected for the programme will work closely with officials and experts handling major digital governance projects.
Internship categories and seats
Programme Management – 5 seats
Awareness and Communication – 2 seats
Capacity Building – 2 seats
Technology Management – 2 seats
Project Appraisal – 1 seat
Interns will work under the direct mentorship of a Head of Division (HOD) at NeGD and participate in tasks related to policy drafting, programme documentation, stakeholder coordination, and technology implementation.
The official notification also highlighted that interns may contribute to projects involving:
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Blockchain frameworks
Cloud computing systems
Natural Language Processing (NLP)
Data analytics
DPDP Act and data privacy research
Emerging digital governance frameworks
WHO CAN APPLY FOR NEGD SUMMER INTERNSHIP?
The internship is open to students from recognised institutions across India who meet the academic eligibility requirements.
Eligibility criteria
Candidates must have secured at least 60 per cent marks in their last qualifying examination
Students pursuing pre-final or final year courses can apply
Eligible academic structures include:
10+2+3 pattern
10+2+4 engineering programmes
Integrated or dual degree programmes under 10+2+5 pattern
Diploma or degree programmes
Additional conditions
Qualification requirements may be relaxed in exceptional cases with approval from competent authorities
Merely meeting minimum marks does not guarantee selection
Candidates with stronger academic profiles and higher qualifications may receive preference
Students from institutions ranked among the top 100 in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) will receive additional weightage during shortlisting.
HOW SELECTION WILL TAKE PLACE
The internship selection process will happen in multiple stages.
Initial shortlisting based on qualifying examination marks
Additional weightage for students from top NIRF-ranked institutions
Final selection through interview or internal committee evaluation
Selection based on NeGD’s organisational requirements
Shortlisted students will be evaluated and interviewed during the third week of June, while final selections are expected to be announced in the fourth week of June.

INTERNSHIP DURATION AND BENEFITS
